Yeah. even a housecat gets pissed and will scratch you every once in a while. now imagine that, but with 3 inch claws that can tear muscle.

I had a 5 foot nile monitor very similar to that. he had a huge ass glass cage in my room. looked like something the zoo would keep them in, this fucker ate 15 goldfish every few days and loved the water. he would sleep in the pool in his cage. then one day he managed to get out, he cornered my sister and lashed the blood out of her legs with his tail...he had to go after that. They are cool animals though just not very friendly.

If I ever have a huge enough house with a huge enough yard to humanely keep a big cat, I totally would. I love cats.

yes it's always beautiful to see someone taking one of natures most beautiful animals and sticking them in a cage for their own entertainment

How much are the monitor i want to get one i have a 300 gallon tank and home, would that be even enough?

actually he has been in the papers alot because he has saved alot of cats... 95% of the cats there were sick or in shelters.. he has dedicated all of his land for them.. huge areas etc and once they are healthy again he sends them to reserves etc

yes but he got them from people who were containing them most of the time. it's good to get them healthy and send them back to where they belong.

The tank I had for him was an old butchers display case with a sliding back. About 15 foot long curved glass front on a wooden base. Got it pretty cheap and converted it for him. not sure if a 300 gallon tank would be enough for a 5 foot monitor, but most of the ones you'll find in a pet store arent near that size anyhow.

You could probably get a good sized monitor in the $400-600 dollar range. shop around the trade magazines and there are a ton of online sites that offer breeder listings that can point you in the right direction.
