Boy imitating Spider-Man impails self

Inverness boy imitating Spider-Man impails self in accident

INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) -- A 5-year-old boy impersonating Spider-Man crashed into a large statue of an elephant at his grandmother's home, impaling himself on a tusk.

Hunter Helton was recovering Friday at home from the wound to his left hip. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital on Thursday after emergency workers became concerned the ivory tusk might have hit a bone or an artery.

Hunter had seen Spider-Man 2 on its opening day Wednesday and was playing at his grandmother's home, imitating some of the super hero's moves.

But as he jumped around the den with his siblings and a cousin, the boy lost his balance and fell into a filing cabinet and then hit the heavy mahogany elephant his grandmother had bought in Africa. Half the elephant's large ivory tusk broke off and got stuck in his body.

"It was horrifying," said Nikki Mitchell, Hunter's mother.

At the hospital, x-rays showed the tusk hadn't punctured anything serious. A surgeon was able to remove the object without surgery, instead cleaning the area and stitching it closed.

Doctors told Mitchell that Hunter was lucky the injuries weren't more serious.

Mitchell said she was proud of her son keeping his composure during the ordeal. He'll be rewarded with a Spider-Man 2 video game.

"That was his motivation through it all," Mitchell said. "I'm like, whatever it takes.

"He was really brave," she said. "We're lucky it was a happy ending."

That's the gene pool trying to chlorinate itself. We need to remove all warning labels and let nature take its course.

Yes, but then who would post at GFY?

So, basically, this is about a kid running around the house, playing, who fell and happened to land on a sharp object.
That has fuck all to do with Spiderman. It's a bit like when a kid wearing a Batman cape gets run over by a truck - a normal accident.

It has nothing to do with the movie, and it has nothing to do with the kid being stupid or not.

Good point, huh?

This kid got hurt while playing. It's not like he strung up a rope to the roof and was swinging around the living room. He was playing, fell, and got impaled.

I wonder if imitating DareDevil with his eyes closed would have had funnier results

Would you have read the story if the headline was "Kid falls while playing at grandmother's"?

There's your reason. :2 cents:

Every headline like this should just read:

Kids do stupid shit: END OF STORY.

Spunky 07-02-2004 11:06 AM

Reminds me when I was playing Superman and fell off the roof and broke my arm..:(

Yeah... there's the reason why the newspapers create such headlines.
I wasn't replying to the newspapers though. I was replying to the guy who found it necessary to post this random news article on gfy and the guy saying it's a good thing he didn't see jackass the movie.
