introduction:

There are over 1 billion Web sites listed with major search engines. With all that competition, how will your customers EVER find YOU?

Ok so you spend time and money on developing and hosting your web site. You have the best product/service on the Internet at the best possible price, or maybe just offering a free based service. What?s next? How do people find out about you?

Sure people can go to Google or Altavista or Yahoo and type in your Business Name or yourdomain.com and go to your site, but how will people ever find you in the first time?

You have to be visible to search engines (Spiders) that crawl the net looking for proper content websites. Content must be fresh (updated often) and relative to the rest of the website. Spider will enter your site sometimes through a doorway page and sometimes through another linked page and will continue to read the content, META tags and your basic HTML code to rank you in its list. Now whether spiders enter through a doorway page or anywhere else on your website, every page must be optimized for each individual spider. Link polarity is one of the most important factors in search engine placement. Without having a large number of sites pointing to you with proper link coding your site will be noticed by spiders but not rated as high as your competitors. Now with all that in mind all of these factors are important and some are more then others, but obviously the more people visit your site via a search engine the higher your click popularity rating will be and a search engine will assume that your site is relevant to the topic and therefore raise your ranking.

Doorway Pages (also known as gateway, bridge, or jump pages) are web pages specifically created for a given search term and optimized for the algorithm used by a particular search engine.

This page then provides a prominent "Click Here To Continue" link to the main page of your site, or the better ones redirect people seamlessly into the main page of the site

Link popularity:

Link popularity is the number of external sites that link directly to a page somewhere on your web site.

One major factor to consider in your search engine optimization strategy is link popularity.

Search engines will regard sites with many links pointing to them as more important. It's only natural to expect that popular sites with many links pointing to them will be high quality sites.

Not all links are equal. Links from popular sites will give your site a higher boost.

Title and meta tags:

Your title tag is one of the most important tags on your page.

It is crucial that you put your keywords in the title.

Some search engines also pay extra attention to words in description and keyword meta tags. Meta tags will only work on a well optimized site, otherwise they are as useless as a site without meta tags.

Another factor influencing search engine placement in some search engines is click popularity.

The number of users clicking on links to your page from the search results is counted.

Pages that are frequently clicked will get a popularity boost.

This way all sites have an equal chance to get click through points awarded.

Don't be tempted to click your own link over and over again. Repeated clicks from the same IP will be detected.

Clicking on your link and quickly returning to the search engine again might actually hurt your rank.

The search engines will believe you did not find anything interesting at the page.

That is not a good search engine optimization strategy.

How can you influence click popularity then? By putting some work into your page title and description meta tag.

These are the main factors influencing people's decision to click your link.

High quality content will make visitors stay at your search engine optimized web site, and will stop them from quickly returning to the search engine.

I disallow all robots and spiders from my sites.A waste of bandwidth IMO.
