WinXp Experts..could use your help!
I installed a LEGAL store bought copy of Windows Xp Pro this afternoon. When I go to boot it up..it just hangs at the logo and stops.
It will boot up in safe mode with no problem. I've read so many different articles available all over the net on HOW to fix this problem..but none of them work..so far. I've done the /sos in the boot.ini and I've even added /bootlog after the /sos in boot.ini It gets to the first line in boot.ini talking about the amount of memory and it says "bootlog" activated, and that's where everything stops. I've looked for virii and other problems, but keep comming up with nada. I hate to think if I reformat the drive again and re-install winxp again that I would have the SAME result. So ANY help/advice would DEFINITELY be appreciated!! |
I had a firewire drive hooked up that would cause xp to not boot fully until i power cycled... got any of them?

It had a "d" drive, but I disconnected it before the installation. The only other thing besides the "C" hard drive is a floppy drive and cd-room..and I have the CMOS set for floppy drive hard drive cd-rom in that order for bootup. |
I'd say It's a hardware issue if it'll boot up in safe mode. Safe mode doesn't bother loading any drivers or even checking for most of the hardware.
So there's something that Windows is having a hard time with... a cdrom, extra harddrive, usb, sound card.... anything. |
Only option is format c:\\....conflict somewhere.

Boot into save mode and check your system logs:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer |
original microsoft products never work well. Warez versions are patched and work smooth :glugglug

What kind of PC and video card. Video drivers are notorious causes of system crashes and stalls.

Under applications:VSS Volume Shadow Copy Service Error (MS says Com+ not enabled under safe mode) Event System (MS had NO info on this one) Unable to open Redirector Service (MS says to type "net statistics" and I do and get nothing. Then it says to go to command prompt and type "Net Start Workstation" and I do..and again get nothing (yes, this puter is the 2nd part of my home Lan System) More in next msg..sigh |

Under System: Drivers Failed: Flip & Processor (MS says make sure drivers are enabled correctly). I have made sure all drivers being used are the latest and under device manager it says everything is fine.
DCOM error: Can't be used in Safe Mode That's it for error msgs (as if they weren't enuf..and I've truly checked every one of those to the best of my ability). One interesting warning message:Windows cannot unload your classes registry file. It is still in use by other services or applications. The file will be unloaded when it is no longer in use. That one leaves me blank because I've never been able to boot up normally to have been able to create a user's profile that entered into the registry. |
I don't see any errors not related to booting in safe-mode. I suggest booting up and wait for 20 mins. It could be an IRQ problem slowing down the system (will get fixed automatically). If it doesn't boot, I suggest trying to reinstall.

Now I'm faced with the problem of I can't get the computer to load the cd. (I was going to re-format and reinstall). Now when the cdrom is the boot drive..it gives the message "Windows is checking your hardware" and BURP, the system suddenly reboots. I'm starting to wonder if maybe that cdrom drive is the culprit. I'll put in a new one tomorrow and see what happens..too tired for that tonite. |
