Twinkie alert! http://www.kittenexposed.com/twinkies.jpg |
I am pretty sure they are battered in a tempura style- bt eI've never eaten one- something about an animated billboard of a moustached chick in vegas getting cream all over her face never appealed to me.

My father got hit on the expressway. From behind. Not a pretty sight, from what he told me. Fried twinkies were brought to my attention while we were exiled in Georgia.....not bad...a little sweet.. |
Me and a friend cooked a few on the grill while drunk years ago. I must say, they didn't have the flavor I expected. Was pretty nasty lol.
|
I had them at the LA County Fair last year (as a chaser to my deep-fried snickers bar.)
They were fried in an effacious corn-dog batter and put on a stick. The Snickers bar was okay, but it failed to melt to the desired consistency (possibly because M&M/Mars puts all sorts of chemicals in there to prevent melting on hot days,) and the deep frying process did little to enhance the taste of the Twinkie. Next year at the fair, it's back to Hogly Wogly fries and Mackinac Island Fudge for me. 6000 calories of mmmm-yummy... |
Laurie ....I believe that I have a photo of you eating deep fried Twinkies :)
hehehe from Hennessey's in SD |

They sell them at Busch Gardens here in Tampa. They're actually really good.

They had a gas tank flaw... You hit it from the rear and they would explode!!!! :thumbsup |
Eww, that doesn't sound good at all. Of course, I don't like Twinkies in the first place so that might have something to do with it.
|
I had a deep fried snickers once, it was ok.
|
deep fried twinkies aren't as good as you think.....

The key to deep-frying twinkies is to batter them in Cap'n Crunch first, then serve with your choice of whip cream, chocolate syrup, and/or any other confectionary delight.
We have a bar in Atlanta called Mulligan's, where the owner/chef sits around all day devising new, interesting ways to deep fry food that was usually unhealthy to begin with. Along with the deep-fried Cap'n Crunch Twinkie, he is also responsible for the Apple Jax Porkchop (porkchop breaded with Apple Jax and deep-fried), the Smores Empanada (chocolate and marshmellows on pizza dough), the Piggly Wiggly (hot dog wrapped in bacon and served in a cinnamon crueller), and the Luther Burger (a bacon cheeseburger on a Krispy Kreme donut -- so named because it was the favorite meal of Luther Vandross prior to his stroke). However, his most valuable contribution to the culinary world (and to the bottom-lines of emergency medical equipment manufacturers) has to be the infamous Hamdog. The Hamdog is a hotdog, wrapped in cheese, rolled in ground beef, and then deep-fried so it all sticks together. Then it is topped with sauteed onions, chili, bacon, more cheese, a fried egg, and hot sauce. This sedimentary chart will give you a better idea: http://www.consumptionjunction.com/i...f-a-hamdog.jpg If you're ever in Atlanta, hungry, and without regard for your own health, I highly recommend you visit Mulligans on East Lake Drive in Decatur. The morbidly curious can see more pictures in this Consumption Junction editorial. |
Damn HamDog, it's making me hungry.
|
I must say...I don't think I've ever had a Twinkie before.
|
I missed out on the Deep Fried Twinkies this year at the Del Mar Fair. That was on the food list to get, but after a polish and italian sausage, austrailian battered potato chips, a fair ride that made me sick, then a funnel cake... I decided against the fried twinkie.
but yes.. I think they're good. :thumbsup |
We need a experts opinion on this...bump for headless

Some people will fry anything. But for some reason it sounds good to me
|
I think a twinkie is a rich enough dessert that I don't need it fried to boot.
As for frying ice cream, can you do that? I learned how to make baked alaska in cooking class. Baking is one thing, but I'm not sure how the hell you would deep fry ice cream. |
That HamDog sure looks yummy!
