I, Robot: Book vs Movie.

Anyone here read Asimov's I, Robot and realllllly not looking forward to the movie?

Looks like the only think they're keeping from the book is the Three Laws of Robotics.

He was not very action orientated in his writing. I doubt it would make a movie by todays standards. He wrote for smart people. Not many of those left.

I agree. When I first heard they were making a movie, I wondered how they'd do it, especially considering it's a collection of short stories. But even if they were to choose only one story, the production would be extremely costly.

I loved Asimov's books and I even bought the movie novelization of I, Robot. I have not read it yet since I have tons of other books waiting to be read. It has been years since I read the original version. From what I have seen of the trailer, I am not too impressed with the movie version so I will probably save that for a rental. The winking, smiling robot made go wtf? the first time I saw it.

I wonder if this is actually Men In Black III since Will Smith is in it.

The movie is going to suck.

I hope he throws out lots of one-liners like he did in Independence Day.

(Ugh)

They really should have picked someone else.

Sounds almost crazy, but even someone like Tom Cruise would have been better in this movie. He was surprisingly good in that futuristic Speilberg flick a few years back.

i am actually looking forward to the movie. seems very interesting to me

I think the Foundation Trilogy would make an awsome movie series. If you think about it StarWars is a bit of an Asimov rip off.

EviLGuY 06-29-2004 12:22 AM

Looks like they are going all out to ruin Asimov's book really.

I hate Will Smith movies generally.

Fenris 06-29-2004 12:54 AM

I hate what they did with Assimovs Bicentennial Man and i guess I, Robot will be not much better.
Hollywood really knows to ruin a good SF story.

Anybody ever read the young adult novels he wrote with his wife about a boy and his robot? I think those would make a cute series of action movies. You could make a bunch of them like Harry Potter. Good stuff.

I don't think I've read I, Robot since junior high...I need to give it another glance...maybe after the movie though...that way I can actually enjoy the movie instead of being pissed off at how wrong they got it all...heh.

How the hell can one person know that much about math, astronomy, chemistry, biology, history, literature, humor, and writing good fiction?

He didn't have GFY...he had to do SOMETHING with his time...

As far as I can tell, the movie bears no resemblance to the original beyond the title. Or, to put it frankly - Hollywood stole a well-known title in hopes of gaining viewers for a summer-fluff piece of dreck.
