Canadian federal election --- today

I love how Canada just get's it over and done with. We call an election and 4 or 5 months later we VOTE, and a few hours after the polls close we know who our next leaders will be.

Done. Over. No two years of long drawn-out campaigning and smear tactics like our neighbors to the south, no "three days to a month" to get the results of the election.

So, how will Canadians vote? Will we go with Harper and aim for a more "Bush/Republican" friendly government?
Or
Will we vote the Liberals back in for another term and avoid radical changes?

As long as I can get high speed access into my igloo I'm happy, they can all go to hell and leave me alone as far as I'm concerned.

Bravo man. I've been telling people for years now, if you choose to be lazy and NOT vote, you damn well give up your right to bitch and whine about the government later on.

I want to be able to bitch and whine, so I choose to vote too.

Leaving in an hour or so to go get it done.

doober 06-28-2004 09:32 AM

Diva 06-28-2004 10:43 AM

I voted before I came to work.

I don't understand why people don't vote. This is the only chance us ordinary people get at having a say in our government.

So go and vote!!!!

BradM 06-28-2004 10:48 AM

The liberals will win but not a majority government. The Conservatives will win the minority.

BradM 06-28-2004 10:53 AM

We have a Navy?

Actually we do have quite a few gorgous diesel subs. I'm sure a bunch of us could buy them up cheap and start a mercenary Navy that the government could hire for deep sea fishing.

DrGuile 06-28-2004 10:53 AM

done...

CDSmith 06-28-2004 08:16 PM

Well it looks as though it's to be a Liberal minority government for Canada. Interesting election I must say. Canadians have obviously sent a message that although we want to stay the course, we took back a little of the Liberal's power today by only giving them a minority win.

The Libs will have to include the NDP in their caucus, thus the NDP will be able to exert some infuence over policy for the coming term.

For the Americans, the name of our Prime Minister is Paul Martin. Much easier for you to pronounce than Chretien. :D

Hey CD, I've always looked at it the other way -
when the politicians you vote for fuck up, YOU are personally responsible :Graucho

That's the other side of the coin.

I have noticed that on occassion when a leader does fuck up badly, you find yourself in a room full of people and you ask about him and every one of them says "Well *I* didn't vote for him"..... ha ha.. yeah, well somebody did.

No one wants to admit they voted for a retard I guess.

But the original point stands. No change in government can ever be affected unless people get off their fat apathetic asses and go vote.

CDSmith 06-28-2004 08:54 PM

Btw, does anyone know what the voter turnout was like today?

EZRhino 06-28-2004 08:56 PM

good luck, I'm sure your elections will fair better then ours

FlyingIguana 06-28-2004 09:09 PM

too bad liberals couldn't nail down a majority
