Dual Monitor Video Card Recommendations?

I'm building a new video editing machine from the ground up and I want a good Dual Monitor Video Card.

Any recommendations?

Link are appriciated. :)

Fond of ATI myself, there's probably newer ones available, but I'm told this one's solid for what you're looking for

If you're not going to play games on the machine, get an Matrox Parhelia (these cards as so damn good they even increase the display sharpness), otherwise ATI 9600/9800/X800.

This one looks good for my needs.

Any thoughts?

I will check out the other links as well.

Thanks.

I think that's the card to beat right there, the stats on it look damn impressive. Whichever card you do end up going with please do let me know, I'm about to build my own editing system and don't think I'll go up to Tri-displays just yet.

That card is designd for Autocad/3DMax/Maya etc. For video editing you don't need OpenGL performance and this card is just too expensive for the job.

I'm running dual LCDs with this video card

http://www.matrox.com/mga/workstatio...elia/128mb.cfm

Great card IMO, not sure about the rest but this thing works perfect for me. Windows XP.

Mr Pheer 06-26-2004 03:21 PM

I'm using a nvidia geforce4 Ti-4200

you can probably pick one up for around $60

KRL 06-26-2004 03:23 PM

I'd go with any of the cards using the new nVidia 6800 Ultra processor. This is the latest speed and performance demon.

Valid point.

No, this card will not be used for games...This is for a video editing workstation only.

I like the dual dvi ports on this card......

And BTW....I am not a fan of Matrox....Just had too many issues with them in the past.

Fabuleux 06-26-2004 03:39 PM

I think the Matrix is the way to go, but if you don't like it, any card with one of these chipsets will do fine:

ATI 9600/9700/9800
ATI X600/X800
NVidea GeForce 5900/6800

For video editing you won't need more then 128MB RAM. Dual DVI output depends on the brand of the card.

I prefer ATI over NVidea for better driver support.

one big advantage of matrox though: the quality of the monitor ports is equally good - on most other cards the second port is significantly inferior than the first. we are working with several matrox dual head and triple head cards since years now - no concerns so far.

I've had Matrox Cards and I think they are overrated. I ended up having driver problems with them.

Fabuleux 06-26-2004 03:47 PM

I still agree with MaDalton, however this is also a nice card:
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Dual DVI-I VIVO

VIVO stands for Video IN/Video OUT

two G550 dual-head and one G750 triple-head here at the moment and no problems so far - but it surely depends on the hardware configuration overall - you never know what's behind the next corner.

Get some decent brand mobo like ASUS or ABit to make sure your video card works fine. Another word of advice, AMD is way faster than Intel for games, however if you are going to render video, Intel is the way to go. I think 3.0GHz Intel will finish the job 20% faster than AMD 3000+. If you are going to spend some money, get the newest AMD Athlon 64 3800+ socket 939, that on can't be beaten by Intel.

For harddisk, if you go with Serial ATA, buy the Western Digital Raptor 73GB (WD740GD, 10.000rpm, 8MB, SATA), you will love them for video editing.

Was not about graphics cards but it's good info so WTF.

The Truth Hurts 06-26-2004 04:05 PM

I've got an (OEM) Matrox Millenium P650 Dual DVI..

It's the shit.

And theres an "upgrade kit" which will make it triple head.

You've talked me into it.

I'm going with the G750 for dual monitor and 1 tv out. :thumbsup

Looks perfect for my needs.

Thanks. :glugglug

I have a question I have two lcd monitors nec 1530 v's they have vga connections if I got dvi adapters for them and a dvi card would see a big difference or not?

The DVI connector gives both digital and analog signal, with adaptors, you don't use the digital signal, but the analog. So buying a new card is useless.
