Drop down menus. hahahahahahahahahaha vs. Flash

I am all for flash integration on the internet but I hesitate in using it for drop down menus for the simple fact that many people just REFUSE to install the plugin. I realize that people also disable jscript in their browser but they don't have to do any additional installation to get the jscript ones to work. I have had mainstream clients very intensely stress to me to NOT include ANY flash in their site. Menus or otherwise. Then some really want alot of it. So which is it still with surfers? Flash or Jscript?

Based on posts I've seen here its probably close to 50-50.

I like both, but flash does look way cooler.

It's an interesting subject really. I guess the only way to go is to make 2 different ones and load them dynamically based on the users settings. Know of any percentage stats online anywhere one way or the other?

I think with flash's ability to use xml and other external files, it will be the way to go from now on. Plus like you said....it's way cooler lol.

Java(script) can look really cool too.

Go with Flash.

We just conducted this research of online stats for 2004, and the results were the following:

Flash: 96% of surfers can view Flash with a growing number every new browser version.

hahahahahahahahahaha: 90-95% of surfers support it or haven't disabled it. Of this number, about 85% of those who disable it are webmasters, techies. Not your average surfer.

The best solution is to detect and then redirect to the appropriate version, however in the case of just choosing one we say go with Flash.

a shitload of people have flash, seems like only the uptight anti-ad people disable it, the average user wouldn't know how to or wouldn't consider disabling it due to all the cool content they wouldn't be able to access - one reason i don't disable it.

i sent some google traffic to a gallery with a flash movie embedded into the page, the file was 500Kb and when i checked the stats on the gallery almost everybody downloaded the file consistent with the amount of uniques the page got, which means the flash plugin is active and working in there browser, not to mention i got conversions at 1:200. its great for interactive ads and video since you can incorporate it directly in the page without the user needing to open up winamp and windows media player to play it.

Yesterday I removed the javascpt on a TGP, I used it to generate the page with documentwrte to save bandwidth. Traffic is increased by 20% since then. I would go for Flash.
