call you tech, sounds like a chmod/chown/ownership or permission problem...

Mojo Rizin 06-26-2004 09:34 AM

Hidden file like htaccess?

Lycanthrope 06-26-2004 09:34 AM

It is probably a group / owner issue. If that folder was generated by a script it was probably as user "nobody" and if you don't have root access you'll have to get your host to delete it.

no I created it, I had about 10 video clips there..deleted video clips but folder can't be deleted...
All I know about this folder is that it was hotlinked (video clips) by some dudes.

(I have root access)

no it is just a regular folder nothing special.

TheWildcard 06-26-2004 09:42 AM

Why not just let it stay? lol

Tom_PMs 06-26-2004 09:42 AM

Still sounds like an ownership issue. Get a superuser to nuke it for you.. Can you do other things with it like change other permissions etc?

telnet or ssh:
rm -R path_to/folder_name/
removes w/o regret including what's in the folder

looks like your ftp progie cannot remove folders which have stuff in them? - i really wonder because i havent seen that in a long time

Tom_PMs 06-26-2004 09:44 AM

Maybe you can rename it, then delete the new name.

Does the icon of the folder say "owned" on it? lol jeez shit like that is a pain in the ass..

Sorry for the stupid question but where do I run that command?
can I do that from c-panel? :glugglug

Serge Litehead 06-26-2004 09:59 AM

usually through telnet or ssh client
if your c-panel allows you to execute any *nix command from browser then you can do that there

download putty for ssh access http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

its fairly easy, you just need to log in

Laosan 06-26-2004 10:01 AM

Options -> advanced -> common, then mark "allow deletion of non-empty folders"
btw, that's for wsftppro

NBDesign 06-26-2004 10:01 AM

Sounds like you have been hacked.

Does the folder have a name? I have left my ftp open for a friend to download something... someone found my open ip and fucken uploaded all this porn shit... I was able to delete the files... but not the directories... it kept telling me they did not exist. I had to format the drive to remove them.... nothing else worked.

Good luck. :(

You will be able to delete everything thru telnet access

I just tried putty, and shit I don't have shell access! (servermatrix.com)

I will just contact the support and see what happens.
