okay i got a wireless adaptor card today for a laptop to look for access points and what not

what do I need to do to get that workin

http://www.netstumbler.com will find any wifi networks in range. It won't crack them if they're using WEP. Gotta get airsnort
to crack that. Airsnort only works on *nix last time I checked. May be ported now though.

Great software to have if you have some kind of industrial/business center around town. Half the companies have networks wide open to do whatever you want :)

Same thing goes for home networks with wireless routers. Most people just plug them in with default settings. Know the local ISP and you know the outgoing email server :thumbsup

Connecting to any network that you don't have permission to do so is a FELONY and will land you in prison.

I suggest you join the forums over at www.netstumbler.org and ask audit or Thorn to help you understand this issue.
