$1,500 Header Design Opportunity + Long Term Work Deal

$1,500 Header / Navigation Bar Design Opportunity For Men.com

I need a cool looking new header with drop down navigation bar designed with the following specs.

1. Header width should full page extend to 100% of browser width.

2. Header height should be a max of 200.

3. Must include our current M logo. MikeW designed our present one and we like it a lot.

4. Navigation should be horizontal bar style using j.avscript or flash, etc. and accomodate 10 main categories (label them cat 1, cat 2, cat 3, etc.) and then drop down with about 10 sub cats off each main (label them cat1-sub1, cat1-sub2, etc.)

There are 2 sets of graphics to browse and use and the Men.com logo is on Set 1 in a Photoshop PSD file.

Graphics To Choose From:

Set 1:

http://www.men.com/graphics/photos1/index.html

Set 2:

http://www.men.com/graphics/photos2/index.html

Opportunity to submit for this job will close on Tuesday June 30, 2004 at 11 PM.

We reserve the right that if no one produces a design we like and want to use from this board, then there will be no selection made or used. $1,500 will only be paid if we select and use someone's design.

There will be additional lucrative long term design work opportunities available if we use your design.

I want something that will be high impact, lots of style, and a real knock your socks off design. We're open to any color scheme.

The challenge is we have 3 demographic groups hitting our site and they are all about equal. About 1/3rd straight male, 1/3rd gay male, and 1/3rd women. So keep in mind when selecting from the graphics that the challenge is to keep it neutrally balanced and appealing to all 3 groups.

We want the focus to be on personals and a portal style feel.

You can e-mail the links to your submissions or post them on this thread to publicize your work for others to see.

Post or e-mail if you have questions.

How strict on the 200 Height rule are we?? :)

TheWildcard 06-25-2004 04:16 PM

Where's the PSD file for the logo? Or any layered file.

KRL 06-25-2004 04:17 PM

Some layouts of competitors to see.

I would recommend Flash in this case. It has a higher % of surfers who can see it, compared to hahahahahahahahahaha (most support it but many disable it) or DHTML (many version/compatibility issues still).

With the traffic you get / plan to get, 1-5% makes a HUGE difference :winkwink:

As a suggestion, why not build 3 interfaces instead. Use the main one for straight males, with very easy to notice link'image to get to gay.men.com or women.men.com (for example). I think this will optimize your results, as each interface can target the surfer more accurately.

IE. A straight male coming to men.com might get turned off by the gay content, or vice versa. Your ads can then be placed on the appropriate front-end.

My :2 cents:

Good luck with the designers! :thumbsup

Flash is great!

On point 2 we did that originally and then realized it would just triple the work load and it was too confusing deciding what only one group would like but not the other and maybe 2 of three would like, etc. Plus it created a segregation vibe which a few people commented on. So we axed it.

I dont think there is a big difference between flash and JS compatibility ... I got JS on and flash off honestly ... I hate flash and a lot of people do too

Deadlines are the worst. Yeh I hate giving them and having them. But we live in a world filled with them in so many aspects of our lives.
