Why do some countries seem to be hot beds for cheaters/scammers?
 

I know there are quite a few programs that won't allow certain countries in for very obvious reasons.... a HUGE percentage of them are cheaters.

There are some countries known for their hackers/crackers.

There are some countries known for the stolen credit card use.

I can almost guess the countries/area where a person is from when I see stolen content.

What is with that? What are people learning in those countries? Are they raised by rabid wolves on a laptop?

economics... its just worth more to cheat/steal there.... nothing but human nature

I don't know why, but it sucks for any honest people from those countries. I have gotten to the point where I have to make assumptions about some people. That's sad.

Many of them are from countries with poor social capital. I know that sounds like just throwing a term at it - a circular definition - but what I mean is it's no accident that some of the same countries that don't even have functioning checking systems have the highest fraud.

Also, most of those countries have depressed economies but access to technology. Unlike, for example, most of Africa which has depression and little access to technology and modern communication.

I've shut my doors to do business with foreign countries barring Canada and England.

The rest seem to be a hodge podge of scammers that basically target our consumer's.

So I myself will not help perpetuate the destruction of the base that puts food on my table.

PS: Since that decision 1 year ago I have not been scammed and I have builtthings that appeal to card holders for legit companies and elements that benefit our industry.

Nothing like banking 10K a month on average and not wonder if checks are going to bounce or be disrupted insome manor, for example a scam company vanishing offshore.:thumbsup

I do not expect many people to follow the simple logic of taking a stance to protect legit card holders from getting scammed which at the end of the day effects honest business bottom lines in the longrun.

But it would be a good movement to practice in keeping our consumers from getting frauded.

I turn down design gig's that are clear scam's 2 to 3 times a month on average.

Its pathetic but the reality is a dollar spent helping foreign risk company these days is not worth the risk in potentially damaging consumers that relie on us to direct them to a great service.

2 wrongs never make a right and thats 2 reasons to shut your doors to foreign companies that want to steal our business, content, and consumer base.

I guess the logic can not be disputed...

economics: why not risk taking a sponsor program for a couple hundred or couple thousand dollars when that amount is much more than the prevailing wage where they live

geography: they know that 99.99% won't spend the time/money/effort to track them down

nothing to lose: here in the states, for example, we do everything online: banking, ordering groceries, pay bills, etc. In some of these countries they don't have that, so they aren't risking much...we sit around doing other things online, all they think about are new scams...

This may be an interesting side note, and goes against everything that AlienQ is saying, but, we've only been scammed 3 times in 7 years. And all three times it was a North American based company that screwed us (one Canadian, and two US).

BTW, we're in Canada.

USA traffic has the highest chargeback percentage IMHO :BangBang:

pretty soon i bet these companies will be trying to get incorporated and merchant accounts in the same countries they are banning and have banned for years. why? so they can spam.
