The biggest drawback is none of the major programs will send you a check if you live there.

There are several ideas that you can keep in mind..

We are hanging out in Mexico for a few months and wanted to get dsl. The phone company told us sure. in about 2 weeks, The neighbors said that they have heard the same story for 2 years. So we started looking. we found a company that does high speed via radio signal. That is what Iu am on now and it is very fast.

ONce you have high speed internet get vonage. it is a phone system that gives you a US phone number but rings thourgh your pc and cost about 29 or 39 per month.

Here this is also a mail company that goes to the US daily and picks up mail for a po box. it is a cheap service and we have a cali address.


So, our company in Florida sends stuff to that address, and it does not get lost because of dealing with mexican mail.

There may be something like that there. Also DHL and Fed Ex deliver in most places!!!

rio is a dangerous place for gringos, but as others have said brazil and it's women are very beautiful, and if you are into female asses (or anal sex) most of the girls like it in the backdoor.

Not really much cons as I can think... the poverty might be something bad in the begining, but you get used to it. Crime, not that big deal either. If you choose anywhere but Sao Paulo or Rio you will find it really safe actually.

About broadband... easy to get, although customer service sucks - and if you try to solve a problem with your conection prepare yourself for at least an hour on the phone listening to annoying music and your problem will not get solved. But not really something to worry about, the service works fine most of the time.

But the people are great, portuguese is a bitch, but people are really willing to try to understand you, so you can get over it. Brazilian people like to suck up to gringos, something that I've never understood why...

But the biggest pro is: each USD equals 3 Reais. That, plus the sun and the people...

And a hint: stay away from Sao Paulo! this town is too big, too dirty, too ugly and too dangerous to live in. Just my :2 cents:

And about not getting checks from some sponsors... if you already promote them and are going to move, I'm sure an ICQ chat would solve this issue.
