So Canadians - Why Not The Green Party?

Just wondering why no canadians are interested in voting for the green party??

they havent been bought off by big business ? and many more other features that the conservatives and liberals are accused of

Because no one votes for them, so why throw away your vote on a party that has no chance to get in?

hershie 06-22-2004 01:54 PM

If Canada had a proportional representation system, they would get my vote for sure. I think we need to radically alter our way of living with respect to harming the environment or things could fall apart quickly. Unfortunately, its a throwaway vote with how we elect people in Canada.

is it a thrown vote?? are we voting based on vegas odds?? I thought your vote was for who you thought you could trust and want to represent you not popular vote based on bandwagon

If I vote for a party that eventually screws up, then it was my fault for getting them in - not saying I am voting for them - just curious why canadians vote based on "lost" vote vs. what your heart says is right.

If that is the case, then you are probably going to wait until the last minute to hear what polls say so that no matter who gets in - at least you win and were part of the winners circle.

so voting based on peer pressure rather than what is right?

LOL ...

Dosent really work this way. No vote is wasted .

If one year the administration wake up and see there is 10 % of the people voting for the green party, they will take WAY bigger mesures to keep the country clean ...

No vote is wasted buddy ;)

There are a lot of ways people make up their vote if you study electoral behaviour, and certainly yours would rank near the top on the wildly naiive list.

Paul Waters 06-22-2004 02:05 PM

Some wise person said that "Politics is the art of the possible."

I don't think parties like the Greens understand that. My advice to them would be to change their platform to a philosophy, or a set of ideals. Then create policy platform that is achievable.

But, regardless, it is certainly valuable to have them so they may influence what happens.

ColBigBalls 06-22-2004 02:05 PM

cant vote some a party not in your rideing:helpme

this is suppose to be a honest debate about whats happening.. you dont have to attack me on a simply question. I am in no way naive - and I dont think you have the right to say that.

Why, that is not practical and offensive to many. Why should I not be allowed to vote green if they can't field a full slate. I would hate to be linited in my vote because of who is running in my particular riding rather than have the party field a list of candidates that will assume the seats they won from the proportional vote.

cause no one there has any real experience handling that much money or power

we are lining up to underwrite some of the biggest banks in the world soon, we dont need any hippies to fuck it up

Just reacting to your condescending deduction of my argument as "peer pressure" that makes up my voting logic.

I voted for the Green Party when I lived in BC.

I always vote for whom I think will screw me over the least. I don't vote based on the majority, I don't feel that I am tossing away my vote when going against the majority either.

Voting is how I have my say and I make sure that I do regardless. And if by voting for another party besides the most popular so I go against them then that is what I am going to do. I will not give my vote to anyone that does not deserve it.:2 cents:

bad_girl 06-22-2004 02:21 PM

I am undecided.

I can't decide who will screw me over the least

Too bad they never made a run of things out here. With the all the wierdo's on the "left coast", they would be a hit.

Rich 06-22-2004 07:58 PM

If we had proportional representation, I'd vote for the Greens. I love the fact that they're fiscally conservative combined with having a strong environmental policy, and as of yet are not paid off by any special interest.

This election my vote will go to the Liberals, to help make sure that our country doesn't make the biggest mistake in our history and elect a socially conservative religious fundamentalist during a time when other fundamentalists on both sides are trying to start a holy war.
