Napster's last weekend. What are you gonna use ???
Well, as most of you heard, this could be Napsters last weekend of running as we know it. I think that it's lame how the record companies can't work with Napster rather than against it. They're fucking greedy bastards. They complain about people using Napster instead of buying their cds, when their cd sales have risen. If they want more people to buy their cds, why not DROP the price of them rather than keeping their prices going up, when it doesn't cost much to make them and the artists themselves, don't see much from the sales. It's going right in their fucking pockets.
ANYWAYS, the point about this thread is to see what you guys are gonna use or are using when Napster goes down. I might jump on Napigator - http://www.napigator.com which looks nice, it uses different servers out there including Opennap which I hear that the record labels have sent letters to, but there's no word on wether or not their gonna close down. If you look at their server list, it looks like there's a LOT of available files on there. Have any of you ever used this ??? Please let me know. Then there's Bear Share http://www.bearshare.com which looks decent, but I haven't heard much on that either. Well guys, let me know what you plan on doing. I hope that the record companies have a neverending battle on their hands with the trading programs out there, he he. I think that they opened a can of worms by getting Napster shut down. Which will teach them a lesson. They should've tried to work with Napster instead of against it. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this. If it's a never ending battle you seek, Bearshare is the way to go, because it's based on Gnutella Technology which means ya can't shut it down like Napster http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif
Also I got me a lot of cool DivX movies from it. In fact since I installed it I haven't used Napster again*LOL* Wolfshade ------------------ It's not the drugs that drive you crazy. It's looking for drugs that drives you crazy! |
I'm striking against buying CD's. I will not buy CD's anymore. I never really had to anyways. So, no biggie. And it REALLY is no different than taping a song from the fuckin radio! And there ALOT of other programs like Napster out them. They cant stop everyone!!!!
I mean, I can borrow my friends CD's and burn them and they can do the same with my CD's. Thats all Napster was!! I dont get it! I use to be a huge fan of Metallica, but Lars Ulrich is a fuckin erogent bastard for being the first one to sue Napster. Music will eventually be free. And you are right about the CD's...it cost LESS than .50 cents to make ONE CD!!!! And they want ME to fork over $18???? KISS MY WHITE ASS!!!! I havent bought a CD since November. And before that, it's been well over a year. I dont need CD's. FUCK THE RECORD LABLES!!! Grrr....I'm PISSED!! LOL Cant you tell?? ANyways, I am going to try the http://www.napigator.com . As soon as I heard that Napster died, I started lookin for other programs. I'll keep ya posted hun! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif PEACE! ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
I have continued to buy CD's all along, but no more. I used Napster to weed out the crap I did NOT want to buy and then acquired the stuff I wanted -- but onlyif the price was right.
I like a lot of older music and to pay 15 dollars (US) for a CD released in 1987 is fucking ridiculous. It wouldn't right if I told them to kiss my white ass, but since I AM bi-racial, the record companies can surely kiss my Bi-Racial Blakk Frogg Ass before I buy another mass produced recording. Assholes, I tell ya'. They're all a bunch of assholes. ------------------ Got Galleries? Post Your Fetish Galleries Here |
WoW!! WolfShade..you were right!!! I went and downloaded BearShare. This thing fuckin rocks!!!
It looks just like Napster too. Almost identical in my opinon. I'm downloading songs from it as we speak!! And it doesnt slow my computer down like Napster does!! Move over Napster, Bearshare.com is moving in!! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
Theres also CuteMX. Any1 know how much napster charging?
|
Napster ISNT charging...the deal was for Napster to give Record Company's $1 Billion Dollars within the next 5 years. The deal was rejected and Napster is being shutdown all together. But, I for some reason, I dont think this is the last time we will hear from Napster http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif
I wanna marry Shawn Fanning (founder and creator of Napster). Hes like 22 yrs old and fuckin HOT! LOL http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
Babagirls I completely agree with you on the whole thing. I never really bought CD's, I just recorded songs off of the radio and had friends record their CD's and even my dad's old records on to tapes. It's never going to stop and I have heard from alot of people that listened to songs on Napster and then went out and bought the CD. Shit most of the music in my house is free.
|
Napster was a good service but with teh improvements made on Gnutella technology
I think Napster will die. I'm gratefull though they pavedthe way for all these proggies http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif Wolfshade ------------------ It's not the drugs that drive you crazy. It's looking for drugs that drives you crazy! |
moving back to gnutella, no problem, don't even mind
|
NAKEDCHIC...well, when Napster was being taken to court, there were figures and numbers that got tossed around.
Record sales have DOUBLED, but SINGLES have gone down 28%. I never bought singles anyways. A SINGLE is another way of saying "BUY THIS SONG BECAUSE THE RADIO IS GOING TO PLAY IT OUT UNTIL YOU HEAR AT LEAST 100 TIMES A DAY AND GET SICK OF IT!" LOL http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/tongue.gif THanks for agreeing with me! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
Actually, I uninstalled BearShare. It was cool but then it SUCKED! It was causing "INTERNAL ERRORS" on both me and my friend computer.
So, i went to www.mynapster.com and downloaded that. Its working good so far. It IS Napster, but a lower version basically. But it is exactly like Napster. ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
Download Gnutella!
http://gnutella.wego.com GREAT trading software - peer to peer, with no central server, so nothing to get shut down... http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif To connect, you just enter the ip of anyone else using the software, and you're hooked up. You have to go to http://www.gnutellahosts.com to find at least one live gnutella connection to connect to. |
You poor mis-guided folks....
I'm glad you're all so respectful of your favorite artists' work and passion that you're willing to reward them for it. BTW, while it may only cost 50 cents to press a CD, that's not what you're paying for. You're paying for all the promotional stuff it takes to get your attention. That's why it cost me $1000 to press my CD and $4000 to get it on radio. |
that's true longhair - people at stores buying shirts sometimes say 'i bet they get this for half this price' they don't realize that althought that is true, they are not the fucking salvation army, they are not in business to give things away at cost. you need to pay for the store's rent, employees, promotion, and the guy running the store needs to make at least a little money.

Well Longhair, I see your point there, BUT if you wanna look at it in that sense, Napster is a TOTALLY FREE way for record companies to spread their music, so if they don't have to spend all of that money for radio stations to play their tunes or for promotion, they should be able to cut the price of cds in half, right ?
Longhair, why did it cost you $4000 to promote your cd. If you wanna get out there, you should do what my cousin did. He sent out his band's cd to a bunch of heavy metal magazines and they in turn posted some good reviews on them with their mailing adress in the review for ordering their cd and they got a few sales outta it and a lot of publicity just for the cost of the cds, which did cost them a couple of bucks, but not no $4000. They even sent out to a few labels and did draw some attention. Their at work on their next cd now, we'll see what happens with that. Back to the promotion, what about the bands that you don't see any promotion for ?? The bands that don't have music videos, don't have magazine ads, and don't get played on the radio ?? If that's the story, then they should sell those cds for cheap. Anyways, Napster is a positive tool for record companies. I bought MANY cds after hearing them on Napster. I'll catch wind of a band name in a metal mag or online store, pop it into Napster to check them out, if they sound good, I'll buy it. If I was a record label and I could have most of bands songs available for people to check out, I'd be the happiest man on Earth. |
You folks are looking at this from the perspective of people who know how to use their computers... Napster is by far the easiest way to download music for free, thus allowing AOL moms and 13 year olds just turning on their computer for the first time to get MP3s. Sure, file sharing is not going away, but from the perspective of the record companies, getting rid of the "AOL" of file sharing will definately knock off a huge amount of what they see as piracy from people who don't know anything else or can't figure out how to use Gnutella technology.
|
the same shit happened when radio stations started playing songs on teh radio. teh shit hit the fan then, & recording industry sued. years latter look where we are. theres no way filesharing servers will ever be compleatly stopped. I liek to use "CuteMX", it alows you to select from a number of file types, I use it to get movies before they even come out in theaters.
|
grrrrrrrrrrrrr! i'm sitting here, using bear share, i download 612mb's of the movie snatch, 40mb more to go and the dude like tunred off his computer or something, GRRRRR!! now whenever i try downloading shit, i get "time out" or "busy" or some other error. GrRr!
|
OKay, heres the low down on Napster...
First off, its not dead, YET!! The were SUPPOSED to have filtered the system by Sunday at 12 midnight. But i can still download any song !! Fuck Bear Share! LOL mynapster.com is better than that. But just use Napster for now!! Napster is appealing the ruling and still fighting. So enjoy it..cause one day it might not be there!! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif ------------------ A wise man once said.."Wherever you go, there you are!" |
Napster pisses the music mafia off. Ho-hum. That's cos bands can distribute their own music for free if they are connected to Napster and go to the chat rooms screaming 'dl my tune!'. If it's a good tune then ppl world wide can dl it. I never heard of powerman 5000, jj72, econoline crush, blablah until i got on napster cos UK radio gives us the same old shit that they get paid to play. I bought the cd's if they were good, and didn't if the rest of the tunes sucked. Musicmafia will lose in the end!
|
Download Napigator. I've been using this thing for over the past year. It allows you to choose which servers you want to connect to with Napster. The Open Napster servers (ones that ain't controled by Napster) are just as huge as Napsters.
On the topic of Bearshare and Gnutella, is it just as easy to find full CDs as it is with Napster? I'm not into pulling down singles, I want the full CD. It's basically easy to find full CDs with Napigator. I'm curious if that's also the case with those other two programs. I might d/l Bearshare just for the Divx movies. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif |
Don't bother me none, I always buy my cds from the sale bin or when the music clubs have their 50% off sales. I never even visited Napstar before, during or since the battle.

Hey, I don't know if this is true or not, but I hear that Bearshare has some sorta third party spy software in it. Has anyone else heard about this ??? I say it posted on a board out there. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this claim.

Slick, I do appreciate your comments. We got tons of reviews, but they don't sell that many records and they don't count for much when you're trying to book a tour. Plus there's a ton of underground metal zines. When you're pushing fairly mainstream stuff, like me, there's just less publications for it. We got as far as a review in Circus and tons of smaller zines. The 4 grand was for a radio promoter. We had a single spinning on 30 commercials stations at about 350 spins/week and cracked Gavin's radio charts ahead of bands like U2. Our tour fell through when our drummer quit and our agent had a nervous breakdown. C'est la vie.
And I certainly agree that Napster is a fantastic way of promoting new bands if it's kept under control. That means one or two freebies, not the whole album. And you can bet the labels are already using it this way. As for the bands who aren't on radio, MTv and the mags, they can't sell those cheaper because they're already losing their asses on them. All the behind the scenes stuff is still going on. It just isn't working for whatever reason. When you pay $16 for the new Offspring CD, the company is trying to recoup what they lost on Joe Barband show didn't sell shit. The label system isn't perfect, but when I need a half million bucks to launch a full scale national assault, Wells Fargo ain't gonna cough it up. |
I'll be using winmx. i seem to get faster downloads than napster. plus there's always the mp3 crackhouse for new shit.

longhair:
the recording companies have been ripping off the artist since the beginning. sure, they promote the bands they WANT to promote. and guess what? they get 75% of the money that the ARTIST generates. not to mention all the compromising an ARTIST has to do to please the recording companies. you above all people should realize that file sharing technology will free the ARTIST to promote themselves and make ALL the damned money. ------------------ tit, Mowsebytes Porn Newsletter: Webmasters submit your sites here. |

|
ive bought more cd's as a result of checking out stuff from filesharing than i ever did as a result of listening to radio or other means of promo for bands ... im a musician and i say let there be filesharing!
