To all designers that enter contests here.
I've noticed that putting up fake contests seems to be a popular way to get free graphics work done. I do these contests as a way to sharpen my skills, in hopes that I will eventually be able to design full time. What I don't get is why the pros that enter these things don't watermark thier work??????Look what happened to Tootie in this contest, http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...pagen umber=1
that never could of happened if you watermarked your stuff. If you don't you are begging to be ripped off. Take for example, a banner contest. If there are 20 entries, and even if someone does actually win and get paid, the person that put on the contest still has 19 other designs that they can use. I know watermarks kind of detract from the design, but I would rather have that then be ripped off totally. If we all watermark our enteries, that will put a stop these fake ass contests. While the example above is the olny one that has absolute proof that it was a rip, there are a few other that I'm beginning to suspect are bullshit also. No winners announced long after deadlines, the person holding the contest not posting anymore ect........ The point is IF YOU ARE GOING TO ENTER A GRAPHICS CONTEST HERE WATERMARK YOUR WORK! If you don't know how to watermark your stuff, hit me up on icq# 323935780 I'll guide you through it step by step, it olny takes a little time. </rant> Thanks, Jeff |
that blows if someone rips your work from a contest.
|
Yes, that looks like what I'll have to do from now on. I hate to do that as it can really detract from the quality of the overall work, but I don't see any other choice other than just not entering contests anymore.
I don't enter as many as I used to. Now I only enter contests when I really need the money or when I don't have clients or when it looks like something I would enjoy entering even if I don't win... something I enter in my spare time for fun. It's really a shame that deadbeats and scam artists have to ruin contests like that. :( |
Yeah it is a shame, contests seemed to be a way for somone like me,who is just starting out, to increase my design skills.
It is also good for the person putting the contest on to get a variety of designs to choose from. I agree, I don't like to watermark my stuff, my designs aren't all that great to start with, but it is better then gettin ripped off totally. |
contest are good, and personally, i have benefitted LARGELY from winning just a few in a short period of time (won like 2 in one week some time ago)...
but the contests are only as legit as the people running them and the people observing GFY.. and in either case, i don't think any of us should complain about anything surrounding contests here, if you design something for free and broadcast it to all of GFY and surfers, you have to sacrifice the seal of trust we have with clients and just deal with what "could" happen from throwing ourselves out there. All in all i think contests are beneficial to many and usually the person holding the contest, but don't think all involved have the genuine intention that we ( the designers) have. My 2, back to work :-) FF! |
Water marking should be a standard part of any entry.
Contests on GFY however are pretty much a waste of time. The only contest I can remember which should serve as an example to those thinking about holding a contest on GFY was Vendot's. Any designer though is better off giving their full to paid work rather then wasting a moment on such side distractions. I recently prepared a submission for a contest, and later sold off that work privately, upon realizing the contest is likely to end up open ended. (An assumption formed from the holder's past contest track record at GFY.) $50 short of the prize amount is in the bank, while other entrants are still patiently awaiting a winner to be chosen and paid out. Contest?s are a bit of an oddity, and it?s always designer beware. |
I agree, the contests are great, but we don't have to "sacrifice" a thing if everyone who enters puts a watermark on thier work. That would put an end to the lame fucks who post these fake contests.

Good idea...
|
EHhe I bet you designers think that when you design something for someone that you the creator of a design has no rights to the created works...
Get a fucken clue you god damn fucking imbecille wanna be retarded designers.... YOU CREATE SOMETHING YOU RELEASE THE WORKS TO THE CLIENT. YOU ENTER A CONTEST YOU STILL RETAIN RIGHTS TO THE CREATED WORKS. IF YOU DO NOT ISSUE A LISCENSE YOU CAN FILE SUIT FOR DAMAGES! THE CREATED WORKS YOU DO FOR CLIENTS RIGHTS ARE GRANTED CREATED WORKS STOLEN DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT IN THE ASS, QUITE THE CONTRARY INFACT. PS: I dunno why you people sell your selves as "Professional" designers. Most of you are to fucking retarded to even use photoshop... Thanks for hearing and may you continue being stupid... |

Tootie couldn't take any fucking action post rip even if she wanted to, and neither could you. Evl4fun's point to this thread if I'm not fucking mistaken is for anyone who enters a contest to watermark a submission right off, souring the milk to stop GFY from being such a sweet tit for contest pissants. I've seen some stupid fucking prior posts from you, but I'm in fucking wonderment over this one. Design with out cavalier ego. |

I really enjoy doing design contests, simply because it pushes me to get better. I just don't want to see the whole idea of design contests ruined by a bunch of people getting ripped off. |

How do you use the DMCA razor blade cocksucker when the "client" is an anon fucking monkey? Mistake #1. - Client, Contest... You call a contest provider a client? Truly amazing. Even more amazing its proof of desperation on the designers part and sorry to say most of you designers have no pride and will gladly bend over for a dime. Thats why designers get fucked all the time. While you are making lunch money, Design is my livelihood, go somewhere else and stop ruining a good profession. Tootie couldn't take any fucking action post rip even if she wanted to, and neither could you. Same as Mistake #1 Evl4fun's point to this thread if I'm not fucking mistaken is for anyone who enters a contest to watermark a submission right off, souring the milk to stop GFY from being such a sweet tit for contest pissants. Mistake #2 Thats pretty fucken evident, not knowing what your doing or why or for who! WTF? Damn right ya better mark it. I've seen some stupid fucking prior posts from you, but I'm in fucking wonderment over this one. Design with out cavalier ego. Realise my words only are meant to improve and put to sleep the idiocy of wannabe designers in hopes they a evolve a little. From my perspective most of ya are wannabe's making a bad, bad bad reputation for a great occupation. I have no choice but to scoff and mock idiot designers, in hopes you learn somthing. Clearly Quashi you have alot to learn bud, I like your spirit though. |
and what happend twith the person who started that contest thread?..

Your condesending adolesent attitude is very UN- professional, I'm surprized you make any sales at all. People like you piss me off, even to the point that I made a juvinile responce to your first post. You have the talent, and skills, but rather then offer something constructive you pop in here and belittle other people just to boost your ego. Do you honestly think that your attitude does anything for the profession of designing? To me the holier then thou stance that you take is very unbecoming, and downgrades your skills. |
as long as you dont have face to face contact there will be designers AND webmasters getting screwed. Lets not make this a problem for designer, because i've seen plenty of people getting screwed by designers too.
I make a lot of different work - and contest is just something i do for fun when i have time. When i enter i contest i'm fully aware of the possibility that someone might steal the work. But since contest are a good showroom i'm willing to live with that. Watermarks in my experiance isn't much assurance. So allthough a bit harsh, i'm to some extend gonna agree with AlienQ. |
the fun thing is the guy who ripped tootie's banner has now ripped the www.imlive.com layout for www.imexposed.com
Notice the similarity? |
I will too next time...

Thanks !
I will take notes ! :feels-hot |

I know....this is GFY, and for whatever reason guys come in here and act like pre-pubesent retards, but he is supposed to be a professional. |
thats a great idea to add watermark to the graphics made!
I think that lots of ppl get things made for free this way! |

I don't bother. If it's only like under $300 competition and I don't spend a lot of time on it.. so why bother, it's already done.. if someone just steals it without paying, Then it's good time for a board drama
besides, Basschick wouldn't steal any work anyways |
