Are there adult webmasters out there who have....

Are there adult webmasters out there who have not found the rest of the porn community? ( Message boards, other forums, conventions,

What percentage of adult webmasters monitor chatboards?

Is there a big group of webmasters that are doing their own thing without any contact with message boards?

What percentage of porn webmasters out there are operating outside the community?

I remember back in the day with YNOT, when a new adult webmaster would stumble in, it was like finding long lost family.

Today, there are so many message boards it seems the boards create new webmasters. Back in the day, the opposite was true.

True. I used to only know the folks at Dreamnet, and people through them by extension. I wonder how many lost sheep are out there, looking for the fold? :)

Hmm I hope it wasn't the bestiality or BBW connotations but something about that sentence turned me on. :Graucho

My guess would be over 75% have no idea about the larger community on boards, at conventions...and just get into the biz through a friend...and concentrate on something like AVS, free sites, SEO...

But I suspect there are like 4 times the amount of people who have found GFY and only lurk compared to active posters.

Tom_PMs 06-19-2004 12:09 PM

I'm sure that the answer is Yes, there are some adult webmasters that dont even consider looking for boards..

For myself, I was given links to resource sites and sponsors the same day I expressed interest in doing it. And that was in '99.

There is a BUNCH of people in Atlanta that don't come to boards and just do their own thing...I personally know like 3-4 right near me

i think there is shitload of people that either just don't care or just don't know...another reason I think the post count and registered date are stupid ways of judging people

I know one guy in particular that is a HUGE producer in LA and has some very successful websites, and he only has 10 posts here..but he coud school some of the older folk here

WiredGuy 06-19-2004 12:12 PM

While I was still in school I rarely ever visited the boards; Just didn't have the time. In some ways its good in that there was less distractions and I could focus entirely on work in my spare time. In some ways its bad in that I couldn't see what other webmasters were doing or have a "rumor mill" into what sponsors were up to.

I'm still with them :) 6 Years and still going strong, so I am quite happy.

I know several large guys that I've never seen on any webmaster boards. I've asked a couple why they don't like to socialize and the answer you get is always related to competition and they don't want to share any of their success secrets.

DatingGold 06-19-2004 12:42 PM

I wonder the same thing. But they woulod surely run across at least one of the boards..

Raven 06-19-2004 12:45 PM

I spent the first three years of my 'adult' life with no participation or interaction at the shows or the boards....

I've been around since '98......

They have certainly withstood the test of time.

There are thousands of lurkers on all boards, a majority never post at all.

I cannot see how a webmaster in todays industry could not know about message boards/resource sites. There are so many of them. I doubt there are many people who have been in the biz for a substantial amount of time who are not aware of them. ( 1 year+) Ignoring them, or not using them is another story.

MetaMan 06-19-2004 01:14 PM

although msg boards has broughten me closer to the community i like to hover outside of it, do my own things, i dont like making friends from online business.

bdld 06-19-2004 01:22 PM

i was in the biz for about a year before i finally joined a board.

Boards were a habit with many in the old days, like that first cup of coffee in the morning. As it started taking up too much time in their busy schedule, and become less useful as a business tool - many broke the habit - and never looked back...

It has become more and more difficult to communicate with many in the biz.... they don't do the boards, they don't read or answer emails, they are just off' doing their own thing. Sometimes I even have to resort to snail mail...... .

dennisthemenace 06-19-2004 01:35 PM

I've been a hermit in the biz since I started.

Met a handful of webmasters in person back in '97 and that was enough for me. Funny how meeting R** L*** will make someone feel that way :Graucho

I kill a few minutes a day here, pop into your board every so often and check a private one daily. That's about it.

I wouldn't know what percentage but I do know that I never got on a board until the date I registered here. I spent the first couple years doing normal work. I'd go to some shows and all but I avoided the boards. I often wish it was still the case.

Babagirls 06-19-2004 02:45 PM

its funny, i didnt know about other message boards till i came to gfy....ironic, isnt it? :Graucho

Short Irish Guy 06-19-2004 02:47 PM

I got into the business around four years ago and I started learning how to build sites from newbie boards like Tom's :)
