How's an idea for a "webmaster shit list" sound to you?

After seeing Adult Site Traffic trying to sell a "good search engine cloaker that really works!" in his sig, I got to thinking...

There's so many bullshit, 2 faced people in this business, that I'm tempted to make a webmaster site called something like adultshitlist.com or something like that where I basically have a huge list compiled of people with whom I would never do business.

My only concern would be getting sued from one of these assclowns, but the way I see it, if my content is other people's posts and stuff that these people have said and I offer things like screenshots and links to threads as real proof, then while they :: could :: sue me, they most likely wouldn't win the case.

It'd be nice to see somebody honest who's been around a while and dealt with the many sectors of the biz to put together a comprehensive "shit list".

Opinions?

welcome to gofuckyourself.com

cheaters never win :glugglug

got drama?

(search function helps)

kush 06-19-2004 01:33 AM

I have no drama that I feel needs to be brought to any boards.

It's just kind of disappointing when you think somebody is a good, honest businessperson, and then you turn around and see them do something really shitty to try to make a buck.

Not sure how long it would last. Im sure alot of people would get real mad real quik.

My :2 cents: Most people that I have come accross are just looking to make a quik buck (but not everyone. I have met some awsome people of GFY). They dont seem to worry about longevity. Keep us informed if you decide to go ahead with it.

So you are saying you want to compile a list of cheaters, but you don't want to post this in a public place where others may comment, as this forum, because somehow you are a better person and are above public critique?

Nothing personal because I don't know you at all, but that is exactly my point.

I completely understand where you are coming from, but sometimes the best way to make waves in this industry is to let people know on this board. And it winds up here anyhow. If its serious enough, let the heads roll.

kush 06-19-2004 01:45 AM

To be honest I wouldn't do something like this, and there's 2 reasons:

1) My time is more valuable spent doing other things
and
2) I don't want to make enemies if I can avoid it, even if those enemies are shitty people.

The only reason I would do it would be for my own satisfaction and as a public service.

There are more niche things like shared TGP blacklists for cheaters and there's shared LL blacklists, but nothing that's aimed at the people that are higher up on the feeding chain.

I guess I'm just ranting.
In some aspects this industry has cleaned itself up (reducing chargebacks/crossbills etc), but in other aspectings things have become a lot worse, like all of this adaware, rampant spam, sponsors allowing spam if they profit from it, people stealing other people's work, excessive lying and cheating, etc.

Just in case anybody is wondering, I have no drama, and I haven't been fucked over by anybody in a long time. But reading and seeing first hand some of the shitty things people do each other on a consistent basis doesn't settle with me right.

One week it's one person, another week it's a company, it just never stops :(

cherrylula 06-19-2004 02:23 AM

Yeah the dirty hands in this industy are beyond census at this point.

Best you can do is make your money and get it while you can. Develop your own source of revenue with minimum dependance on another company that might go away.

If you are honest in your business and not too much of a sheep you should be ok.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 06-19-2004 02:26 AM

To late, been done before...

Best in history was "GoodBad And The Ugly" - By Serge.

Other's that have tried been sued, however there is rumor of a true shit list that sponsors use of bad webmasters that block real fuckheads from joining affiliate programs...

KRL 06-19-2004 04:22 AM

There are lists but they aren't publicly talked about or available. You run into too many legal hassles.

kmanrox 06-19-2004 04:25 AM

serge started it all back in 96 with Serge's Good, Bad and Ugly =)

kmanrox 06-19-2004 04:25 AM

oops i didnt see your post alien =)

Joesho 06-19-2004 01:14 PM

HAHA who would determine the list, and based on what criteria, are we in HIGH school voting for te cheerleader that puts out, or for the one that cheers the best....

too much BULLSHIT would be put into "the shit list" in my opinion, just cause someone doesn't like darla cause she dumped John, and tim said fred was a loser when he is drunk sorta shit.....

Great concept, but too vauge, and not objective enough to be practicle:2 cents:

jact 06-19-2004 01:16 PM

Kevin from Medium Pimpin has been toying with this idea for a year now. I didn't read beyond the first post, I've got a short attention span.

bdld 06-19-2004 01:18 PM

yeah, but what about the people that say you are a schmuck, or the ones that say I am a schmuck, or the ones that say they have what they do not have, or the ones that some people like but others do not etc.....

How, and who would lay out the criteria? and what about newbies, does the first time they fight with AaronM cause they were drunk, or the first time they call 12clicks an asshat , automaticaly qualify them for the list, with out knowing who they TRULEY are before adding them to such a list?

what will be the safeguards? or is it just a he said she said popularity contest, that has actually NOTHING at all to do with the real business matters at hand?

I think his would be geared to webmasters who don't pay for jobs completed, webmasters who don't complete jobs, webmasters who fraud other webmasters, webmasters who charge back on other webmasters and things that are cut and dry and lack opinion. If it was done that way, there would be fewer problems I think, though there would still be problems I'm sure.

I think we can all agree though, a webmaster who charges back on another webmaster is a crook. A webmaster who steals content, is a crook, that sorta thing.
