"The contractor, 38-year-old David A. Passaro of Lillington, was charged Thursday with two counts each of assault and assault with a dangerous weapon - a flashlight.

Passaro was charged in the June 21, 2003, death of Abdul Wali, who had gone to a U.S. base in Afghanistan on his own accord that month and surrendered to authorities. The officials suspected Wali of participating in rocket attacks against the base and wanted to talk to him. Three days later, Wali was dead.

Passaro was not charged with murder because no autopsy was performed to establish a cause of death, Justice Department officials said."

he killed the guy, was charged with the deathm but because there was no autopsy, all he can get is "assault with a flashlight"

The sad part about all that though...

...is that it isn't shocking anymore.

can you imagine surrendering yourself on your own will, thinking since you are doing nothing wrong that you will turn yourself over to US military and then they kill you and say "we suspected him of launching attacks"

if he was launching attacks he would not have turned himself in.

this type of shit creates MORE tension and equals more beheading videos.

the guy was fired from a Police Department for wife beating and history of run-ins with neighbors.

Since then, Harnett County deputy sheriffs had been called to the rural house twice to investigate domestic fights and again to look into a complaint that Passaro fired a gun at a neighbor's dog."
