if the person icqing you isn't on your list. you can stop that spam easily enough. go into icq security and click the ignore tab and there you will see ignore all messages from people not on my list.

Boneprone, I don't think it has anything to do with signing up with anything. I don't sign up for lolita crap & I sure the hell don't give it to them. I only posted the icq at two bbs: GFY & PC.

I was glad that I was done updating Shemp's categories before opening icq. Seems like it's just another spam tool anymore.

There's an option where you won't get any messages w/o you first authorizing them... but i guess you may still get a lot of bogus authorization requests...

Most of my ICQ spam is from webmasters w/ bullshit circle jerk sites... that's an even bigger waste of time because I have to go to their URL and then discover that every link on their site goes to ucjout.cgi or some shit. Spam is spam -- it's a given by email or ICQ or whatever you use... If you won't want spam disconnect your phone, delete ICQ, and lock yourself in your house -- a lot of good that will do you...

Seriously though I found that when I cleaned up my site and added more free content -- I found that webmasters w/ better quality sites started to contact me... if you don't link to any bullshit sites and your site is really clean you will get fewer bullshit emails and ICQ's...

ICQ is still faster and more efficient than email though I think...

Yes, you can definitely block anyone who is not on your list Jam.

Boneprone, a person using ICQ can get spammed without signing up for programs. It's a security setting problem. Not a bitterness problem.

I think it has a lot to do with the settings that you click when you first install it. It ask to publish your name and number etc.. I unchecked all the boxes and don't have a problem with it either. You publish your number in a directory with them and you're sure to get tons of spam.

I don't use ICQ, but I use Yahoo Messenger. And when I first installed it, I had a TON of spamming instant messages and in my Offline Message box too. I went to PREFERNCES and clicked "ONLY ALLOW MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE ON MY MESSENGER LIST". See if you have that on ICQ. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/tongue.gif
