What do you honestly think of conventions/shows lately?
I've noticed more and more some big guys come back and have a lot of negative things to say about the shows.
I have only been to 2 so I can't really comments on any as of late. All I know is from the pics I HAVE to wonder if there is any business going on at any point from the majority of people there or if it is just a few days of drunken insanity. I plan on going to Florida as I hear it is the best. But I have to wonder if it will follow the footsteps of vegas. I admit too though there are a lot of folks who do not get completely bent - and that's awesome. All I can say is... stop smoking dope and drinking at shows. What's the point in going if you don't remember the people you met there? :thumbsup |
Won't really waste my time with the big ones other than Vegas....I will however continue going to the smaller ones like Phoenix.

Now you're one cat I want to meet. I saw you in Vegas a few times. In VBar too but I was not 100% it was you. You're on my list of people to seek out.

The shows are what you make of them. You can still learn, still do business, still have fun, and still party. Get out of the "shows are worthless" mentality or they will NEVER be worthwhile for you.
I've been to all the "shows" this year so far, and there's only one that I considered to be a waste. |
Sly: Easy to say when you get laid as often as you!
j/k I suppose you're right - that goes hand in hand with everything. Your attitude will dictate what you get out of something. I guess so long as you have an action plan and plan to meet certain people all will be well. |
Brad just try carrying around a purse and you'll have no problem. It's the key to my success!

There has not been a single show that we did not come back with new business from. Tonight I will be at a webmaster get-together in Fort Lauderdale and will maybe get some there too. As you said, it is REALLY about having an action plan. You have to be asking EVERYONE for their card. That's the most important thing in my experience. Then when you return, get right to work! Never mail or call people on Mondays. ;-) Also, you have the floorshow which is program owners and employees trapped behind a table. Genius. I always ask who the appropriate person in the company is that I need to speak with. You can waste your time on the wrong person and you will go nowhere.

your totally right... i have good routine now with shows... some shows i set an agenda with meetings and stay away from hotel parties like this past show and some shows i concentrate on networking and going to the parties... either way i always come home with business and it is what i make of it.. :2 cents: |

I skipped the last two shows mostly because I've got too much work to do. I'll be in Florida though :)

If that is the way you feel - then you would have been proud of the webmasters in San Diego - I couldn't believe the numbers who were up at 10am and ready to go. Even the conferences before noon were very full" But, of course the bars closed at 2pm.... not as much temptation. The coffee and Krispy Kremes were a big hit! |
