Electronic Voting, solution or possible fiasco?

While I am usually loathe to discuss any political topic in a public forum, but I feel strongly about this.

Although the link below is through a political group, I hope you will agree with me that this is not a partisan issue, but rather one about fundamental rights and the ability to verify the true winner in an election. A number of voting districts have already taken steps to limit or eliminate electronic voting after fiascos involving the proper functioning of these machines. These machines are basically specialized PCs - just think about how often you have issues with yours... hackers... etc...

I felt obligated to share the opportunity afforded by MoveOn to express your opinion if you agree with me. If you do not, please forgive the inconvenience. Here is the link:

there is always a possibility for the fiasco.. if that exists in the mind of governors..

My opinion is fairly easy.
Just take a look at what is occuring right now in California regarding electronic voting machines. We are fucked.

I think electronic would be a fiasco, plus I know a ton of people still without a computer, believe it or not

Aly-Python 06-17-2004 05:04 PM

I'm with you on this one, leslie. There HAS to be paper to re/count in a vote. This is lunacy!

bhutocracy 06-17-2004 05:04 PM

All I recall is that the machines are owned by some republican affiliated company which can't be good for absolute fairness lol.

It would just be nice to not have to worry about "stolen" elections. He with the best hacker must not win :winkwink:

I can see the exploits, viruses and so on already, NOT a viable solution whatsoever

I am just talking about the lil part that most counties got rid of their non electronic voting booths, and now are not permitted to use the electronic ones. We will be forced to mail in our votes.

BT 06-17-2004 05:09 PM

Jeb bush would have never been in office if it was not for these fiasco's:1orglaugh

sumphatpimp 06-17-2004 05:10 PM

it would work just fine if they didn't use micr$hit for an operating system.

NakedBo 06-17-2004 05:11 PM

We use electronic voting almost everywhere over here. I don't think it should be done op paper all the way. The print out they are talking about on that site does sounds better, you have an extra check then ( I'm not sure how they do a backup over here of the votes). I think we have less problems here in Holland with cheating machines anyways, we have a lot of different political parties here. You should see our voting options, we get that in the mail about 3 weeks before electionday, and it's as big as a newspaper :(

Absolute fiasco...

All your vote belong to us.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 06-17-2004 05:17 PM

I wonder who decided to vote in electronic voting?

Special interest or Americans...

Sorry fellow Americans...

Your being fed nothing but shit these days and its sad most of you are so eager to swallow it.

Electronic voting works perfectly in Brazil.

Politically speaking...
The time for fighting for our freedom is comming again.

Your children will die in that war. Think about the viel thats being slipped over your eyes and ya folks are letting it happen. Your children will die to remove that viel that you were to lazy to pay attention to.

No, it really works awesome. It isn't "100% digital", the machines prints every vote too. We know the results in just a few hours, it's fantastic.

AAAAAH, that would be kinda fun but I don't think Aly needs to share the spotlight. Her show is doing FABulously well and I'm happy being a disruptive sidekick every once in a while :Graucho

But thanks! We'll have to keep that in mind if she ever expands.
