nah age is just a number.. its the mental drive that counts..

i have seen 55 year olds in ufc style fighting kick 22 year olds ass's..

age makes no difference.. unless ur planning on having a long match.. then your stamina might come into play..

SexxxyChat-T 06-17-2004 01:19 PM

Kimo will eat Ken Shamrock alive.

Now I want to see Frank Shamrock make a comeback, did anyone else see the ass whooping he put on Tito back in the day?

I was into grappling back in the Marine days and when I was doing body guard work here in L.A. we sparred quite a bit.

I was a L.I.N.E. Inst. for three years but the older I got the more it was difficult to recover....so I gues the answer is No....not anymore but God Damn is it fun when you are in the proper conditioning...

I almost started tournament fighting in 1997 but pussed out....I think I made the wise choice....:1orglaugh

axelcat 06-17-2004 01:52 PM

Actually, if I'm not mistaken Tito put an ass whooping on Ken Shamrock a year or so ago, at yet another one of Ken's attempted comebacks. It was Frank Shamrock that beat Ortiz back in the day.

I've been following UFC since UFC IV when it was still in tournament style - and I love seeing some of the older guys try these comebacks. But with the way these fighting styles have progressed over the last 6-8yrs, it's almost impossible for them to compete at the current level.

Which I guess is why they're putting two old style dudes in the octagon together, rather than pitting Ken against another currently ranked UFC fighter.

I train at Gracie Academy in Torrance, I'm 38 and I go tooth and nail with 20 somethings all day long.

The hard part of dealing with those guys isn't a strength issue, it's an energy issue. They never seem to run out of gas. As an older guy you kind of have to ride the storm for a little while then clamp down when they finally stop moving for a second. Plus every little thing in your body wants to get tweaked, if it's not your shoulders it's your knees. DAMN getting old lol... but for a guy my age I'm in pretty fucking good shape ;)

I've never seen that.. Randy Couture is about the closest to 'old' in the UFC and he's my age. He's also a genetic freak. At 55 you just can't hold up against a well conditioned young fighter from what I've seen.

I'll roll with you if you're in my neighborhood though ;)

Man I remember when it would be grappler vs kick boxer match ups

these fools today know it all.....some bad mother fuckers

webquest Ken is BIG into this stuff we are meeting him in vegas....i dont think he fights in tourneys though.....fuck.... it would take me 90 days to just get into sparring shape

dig420 06-17-2004 05:59 PM

yep it's Rorion's place, his sons Rener, Ryron and Ralek are the teachers, they're about as good as it gets when it comes to ground fighting and you'll see them in NHB before too long. Pride came to the academy to sign up Ryron a couple weeks ago but Rorion didn't think the money was right and wouldn't let him fight.

they brought grappling to the center stage i remeber when Royce was unbeatable....remember they had the standing bet

dig420 06-17-2004 06:03 PM

yep and you can see people trying to collect if you get the tape called 'Gracies in Action'. If you haven't seen it yet I heartily recommend it, it's a bunch of dojo and street fights the Gracies filmed themselves getting into.

I have to take off for the Academy right now, in fact, too bad because I'm enjoying this thread :)

dig420 06-17-2004 06:09 PM

Gracies in Action right here!
