British 'Garbage Man' who somehow managed to afford a $320,000 Ferrari

Wrecks it in under 4 minutes.

Egham, England, Jun. 16 (UPI) -- For all of its engineering, speed and luxury, a brand new $320,000 Ferrari proved no match for a pothole in Egham, England, The Sun reported Wednesday.

The dream of a lifetime turned into a nightmare for municipal employee Simon Nimmo when he wrote off his brand new 575 F1 "super car" just four minutes after picking it up from the dealership.

Capable of reaching 212 mph, the low-slung car was not capable of zipping across a giant pothole.

Being so close to the ground, Nimmo couldn't see it in time to swerve. One of the car's $3,500 wheels shattered and the entire front suspension assembly cracked.

In all, the car cost him $80,000 per minute that he drove it and he had to settle for a ride home in a tow truck.

They guy isn't a garbage man, he's the founder and managing director of a mortgage firm called Charles Cameron, previously one of the men behind UK brokerage Alexander Hall.

he should sue the road department (or whatever its called)
they are responsible for keeping roads intact. drivers are paying road taxes so there should be no holes.

Simon was left with a £1,750 repair bill following his maiden journey. He is checking whether he can sue anyone over the poor state of the road.

I don't know about the UK, but I believe you can do this in the US. The question is, why the fuck would you drive a car worth that much off the lot without insurance?

sweet7 06-17-2004 05:37 PM

where did you get "garbage man" from ?

Doesn't sound like it was a write off, just busted wheel and some of the suspension. Pretty hard to total a car by hitting a pothole unless you hit a pole or something afterwards.

Hmm, don't think they will cover it since he was speeding. :)

Dont know about UK, but in the US you can't drive a car without insurance. During a test drive, the car is covered by the dealers insurance policy. You have to have insurance before you take it off the lot.

That is so bad!
