My grandmother sent me $20 for my b-day

Not that I need it or anything, but there's something comforting about knowing that she still sends me $20 every year after all these years.

She did when I was 5, she does now that I'm 28 and will probably continue to do so well into my 30's....

I think I'll put this $20 towards the purchase of a new car :glugglug

MetaMan 06-16-2004 01:57 PM

$20, your grandma is fucking cheap.

blazi 06-16-2004 01:58 PM

that's sooo sweet!

CyberBachelor 06-16-2004 01:59 PM

:thumbsup

Tala 06-16-2004 02:02 PM

That's so sweet. :)

Be glad you still have your grandmother. I miss mine every day. :(

Babaganoosh 06-16-2004 02:03 PM

Heh, I got $10 from my grandma not long back. She wanted to buy me lunch. I felt obligated to go to IHOP and have some pancakes instead of buying beer at Hooters with the $.

cluck 06-16-2004 02:04 PM

:thumbsup

It's nice to be cared about.

Elli 06-16-2004 02:04 PM

My grandma used to give me $20, but when I turned 18 she upped it to $25. Every Christmas and birthday, like clockwork. It's not so much the money, but the thought that counts.

NickPapageorgio 06-16-2004 02:04 PM

All of my grandparents are dead. Enjoy it while you can. Personally, I miss getting grandma's $5 spot on my birthday and it's not about the money.

Exactly... it could be a blank piece of paper for all I cared, it's just the fact that I still get it from her after all this time.

It's really hard to describe, but it's a great feeling to open up a card and see it there.

that's ignorant. You don't know her situation!! I can't stand it.

Why is it that when someone posts something nice, SOMEONE has to bash it??? Don't you have anything better to do than bash someone's grandmother??

AT LEAST he has a grandmother!!! I don't have any and I never knew mine except for one(I met her 2x's). I think it's sweet that his grandmother cares enough. Obviously, she sends it out of care. I don't think the value is what matters, it's the thought.
Shit, if he saved every $20 he received since he was 5 it'd be worth a shitload!!:2 cents:

Jill_J 06-16-2004 02:10 PM

nice, she keeps family traditions these way:)

No doubt... I like to think I'll keep getting them forever.

I know the truth, but I still like to think it.

Yep we never get old to them and to us...well they have always been there and it seems they always will be. One day they aren't though.

I wish everyday that I had spent more time with my grandparents but I was too busy being a "cool" teenager going to the mall. I was an asshole and I can never get that time back.

They look down from heaven and totaly realize you were just a kid. And Im sure they would rather have you out there having fun with your friends.

sheldonjuan 06-16-2004 03:54 PM

this thread seriously made me misty eyed...

_Danielle_ 06-16-2004 03:57 PM

That is so sweet! My grandmother does the same thing only she bumped it up to $25 on my 25th b-day!

That was five years ago and it has remained the same since!

no kidding.. i've got one living grand parent left...

was nice to see a hand written Christmas card from him... b/c you could tell by the shakiness of the handwritting that it was difficult to get them written out... damn I miss granny's sunday dinners :(

Tom_PMs 06-16-2004 04:38 PM

That is nice man. And do enjoy it while you can, and visit also.
My grandparents are all passed away. My grandfathers second wife recently passed, I got an inheritance check just yesterday in fact. Dad passed when I was 12, and mother passed late last year.

Dont waste time :thumbsup :2 cents:

<edit> Oh and Happy Birthday :) </edit>

samuel 06-16-2004 04:38 PM

Indeed. :-) I get a $10 check. My grandma had a lot of grandkids.

Arousal Design 06-16-2004 04:44 PM

It's all about relativity...

$20 to you is nothing, but to old timers $20 still seems like a lot of money. My great grandmother (R.I.P) gave me $5, its the fact she was giving me some of value from her perspective that counts not the actual money.

I never spent the cash it's worth a lot more than $5 to me.

I never met my grandparents, they were all dead when I was born. My brother, who's 15 years older than me, can barely remember them because they died when he was young. We only have a few pictures of them, sucks to not have met your grandparents.

SuckOnThis 06-16-2004 04:53 PM

Speaking of grandmothers, I just went to my grandmothers funeral this morning.

:(

Sorry to hear that

Semi-Retired-Dave 06-16-2004 06:19 PM

I too had a grandma like that. That's nice of her, I have an uncle like that too. He would always send us like 20 bucks, then it hit 50, then 100 but that was the highest it ever hit. There were times I would really look forward to that bday. He used to also threaten us that if we didn't stay in school, he was going to stop sending us anything.

I guess its the thought that counts.
