how do you get the invites in the first place?

Why are everyone soiling themselves over this?

I open my account to check my mail and there's a link that says "Invite a friend".

I've got a few accounts and for the past two days each have gotten 3-5 invites to send out.

It's new and it's free...that's all I can come up with.

I need a non-hotmail address though, Hotmail is filtering out anything coming from GMail.

Some would like to get a name they desire before gmail becomes public and someone comes along with a program that goes through a dictionary list that takes everything.
