Valtrex will stop your Herpes breakouts before they happen.

Herpes is herpes. No it's not the same exact thing, but they're similar. I'd definitely get it check out.

I have been struggling with this my whole, just recently I was informed that it could have been related to chciken pox when I was younger. So I asked my mom and she told me that I had the workst case of chicken pox any one had ever seen.
So If you had a severe case of it you may be prone to getting these sores on your lips or surrounding area which is quite painfull and a huge pain in the ass.

Every school photo i have ever taken had me with some sores on them for as far as I can remember.
I have tried many many things to be rid fo them and none of the stuff they sell in pharmacies or even prescription creams or medicnes really work.

The only thing i can suggest for you is to go to homeopath and ask them for a remedy.
I dont remeber the names of the bottles he gave me of hand but the first time i did this treatment I took 3 drops from each bottle 3 times a day with some water.
After 3 weeks i had no more cold sores and it lasted almost a year.
Unheard for me!!!
Since then i have had some but the episodes have been smaller and more controlled.
I am now taking this natural drops every 8 mnths and im clear.

Worth checking out if it bothers you as much as it does to me.

good luck

This has been a big battle for me as well. After years of suffering through some pretty bad bouts of them (I think the worst was when I kept getting them on the top and bottom at the same time, so they'd fuse together at night :(), I finally got a prescription ointment. I don't have it on me and can't remember what it's called though. I'm in Canada, and it wasn't by the same name as the ones I see in the US.

Anyway, I've only had two outbreaks since then, and they're less severe. After trying every remedy I could find online, I think the only one that really, really worked for me (and still does, in conjunction with the ointment) is ice. If you can get it AS SOON AS YOU FEEL THE TINGLE and numb the shit out of it with ice as much as you can stand, it prevents the rapid multiplication of the cells. Even before I got the prescription, I could sometimes ward them off like this.

Aside from general life stuff that can provoke them (stress, hormones, etc), keep your lips in good shape with a good lip balm regularly.

one of the only ones that may work for you.
My experience is it does work but it takes forver and usually you will catch more while trying to heal the others.

I have it at home and rarely use it.

Sounds similar to me...I've had them my whole life, didn't get the chicken pox until I was around 15. My family doctor had never seen a case so bad either...and he was like 80 some years old. One of the worst things I'd ever gone through...I was awake for 5 days straight, not a clue what to do with myself.

doober 06-15-2004 11:56 AM

go see a homeopath, it was the last thing that i ever thought i would do or would work...
I was seriously stunned by how well it worked.

Webasic 06-15-2004 11:59 AM

I was just reading up online for the past little while...and one home remedy suggested breaking the blisters with a needle and then dabbing it for 5-10 mins with vinegar.

I did it about 20 mins ago...and it seems to have taken the itch/tingly feeling out of it.

StarkReality 06-15-2004 12:00 PM

Ya, it's nasty because you can never again get rid of it. The only thing I found working well is acyclovir, zovirax or any other virostatic stuff. Use it early, every hour counts, as soon as you feel this light itching, don't wait, once it really starts all this stuff doesn't help much any more.

Chicken pox, mono, shingles, are all in the same family as cold sores, but are completely different strains and unrelated to your outbreaks.

There are 2 types of herpes: simplex 1 and simplex 2. Herpes simplex 1 is usually above the waist (like cold sores), and simplex 2 is below (like genital herpes). Type 1 is very common and you probably got it when you were a little kid or baby. You may have a close family member(s) with it also. Around 70-80% of people have been exposed to type 1, but only 1/3 will have outbreaks and cold sores.

I had to do a paper/project in grad school about it, and I remember Lysine being one of the recommendations, but I can't remember what form, how much, etc. Your doctor can probably tell you.

Ya i wasnt saqying they were the cause, but I was told that it is somehow related. Many of the people that have outbreaks had severe chicken pox.

Also what is this Lysine? and how is it taken?

Candyflip, please stop talking out your ass!

The only connection between cold sores and herpes in the genital area is the name...herpes. They are night and day.

Try Zilactin. You can get it in liquid or gel. I prefer the liquid. As soon as you feel that tingling feeling on or around your lips, put some Zilactin on a Q-tip and hold it against the spot where you see a bit of a swelling, redness, pain, or tingling. Zilactin will stop the fever blister/cold sore in its early stages.

All alcohol, camphor, or My God...vinegar will do is irritate the area.

THREE CHEERS FOR V I L A C T I N :thumbsup

You are the one who is talking out of your ass, tard.
Its been scientifically proven that Herpes Simplex Type I (cold sores) can mutate into Herpes Simplex Type II (genital sores) and vise versa.

If you got either of them - you're pretty much fucked.
