What do you do to stay focused?

I've posted this before...but here's a few things.

Turn the t.v. off.
I have a cooking timer and a stopwatch one is to limit time I spend doing other things like posting on gfy, the other is to clock how long it takes me to finish a job.

They both kind of help push me through the day to get more done.

What little tricks do you use?

Have my bills pined right next to my monitor. Seems to work very well.

I also have this hatred for post-it notes. I can not stand the sight of them. So naturally I put a project or a to-do on a post it and stick it to the edge of my monitor. That gets me to finish it up ASAP just so I can rid myself of the post it.

I just think.. " the faster I get my work done, the more time I have to watch tv, relax, and read gfy " :)

I like the timer idea. I have a hard time staying focused on any one project. I do find that some days I turn on the juice and make great money ..others are for shit.

Staying off the boards seems to help me a great deal.

Ever since I was young and in elementary school I would come across a problem and hold my breath until I solved it, when I got older I would start denying myself things like a sip of water or a bite of food, currently I do none of these and drink enough redbull and coffee to kill an ox. That usually keeps me wired and on focus.

Not sure how it happened, I went to edit the post due to a spelling error.

I still haven't tried the timer idea, but it sounds great. I can't believe how easy it is to hang on the boards for a bit...next time you look up...WHOOSH! An hour's gone by!

Alltopnotch 06-14-2004 11:04 PM

I use music and I have a task list with alarms on my PDA/Phone that keeps me on track. :)

kowntafit 06-15-2004 09:15 AM

Music usually has the complete opposite effect for me. I get into the music too much and just spend my time listening to the music.

iFliPcEss 06-15-2004 09:58 AM

just the thought that my boss will screw me is enough reason to get focus on my work
