Do i need a warning page on my site?

All i got going is some softcore, with no entrance pages or warnings or disclaimers or anything. the only legal stuff i have is the 'these pictures are copyrighted by blahblah and are not in the public domain' at the bottom of my site.

should i be worried about breaking any laws (unknown to me)???

oh yeah, and i'm canadian too, if that matters.

yes you should have a warning page. At least the index page should be one. And thats where you put your meta tags etc from places like safesurf in order to trigger the kiddylockout programs. Not sure if its a law quite yet but I bet it will be soon. We're probably a minority but we don't think the sex should be right out on page 1. I guess having teenagers might bring that on.

It would be ideal to "cover your ass"
with a warning page. You should also
have the correct http://www.rsac.org/
meta tags on everypage too.

If they make any anti-porn laws, a warning page probably won't be enough. All nudity will probably have to be behind a password protected or AVS protected entrance. This would give non-U.S. webmasters a definite advantage that they don't currently have.

I believe strongly that all sites have warning pages. It makes great searchengines gateway pages. I use My index page for most directories as warning pages. It helps in selling to some that try and sneak in the back door.

I don't have any content on my front page, just a daily pic on some of my sites. but i do have thumbnails which could be considered content (a mother not wanting her 10 year old son looking at porn probalby would consider the thumbnails content!)

so basically, besides for a daily pic, there's no real content. the surfer has to click on 'galleries' to see any more.

if they come up with anti-porn laws, i'll just put my galleries behind passwords or AVS or whatever... but the warning page still just seems to get in the way

the only idea i like is using an entrance page to send hits to banners and such.

Whats so bad about FREE content on your first page ?

I have free content, about 1500 pictures. Which I open up every so often.

As for the warning page, what about netnanny and all that jazz or is that a waste of time.

All of the kiddy kicker progs and ratings have to run from meta tags in order to work. So they have to go in to the index page to tag the kiddy surfers. If you have front page content you're sort of circumventing the kicker aren't you? Why bother adding the tags if you are going to serve it up to them front and center.
This is the sort of thing we need to be real careful about now. We're betting if Ashcroft *does* go after the porn industry, it won't just be the US. They aren't dumb so they'll be looking to get as many other countries involved as possible. If we self police a little, maybe it will pass over. But then again there will always be the jerks who refuse to go along for the good of all. Grab the buck and run motto.

a search engine gateway page is a page that is optimized for search engines. Every search engine has diffrent methods for indexing your site. Use the alt img for key words, sprinkle a few throughout the mainpage. but also keep in mind you don't want to repeat them over and over. Some will not index you for spaming the keywords.

So for each directory try targeting for some major keywords.

ok i see. try to make your entrance page appear 'perfect' to the search engine... the search engine has no idea what the page is really about.

it's hard to play that search engine game, it's hard to tell if you've succeeded or not. but it's FREE traffic, and that's why i'm so interested in it!

how have you done with SE traffic so far?

i'm in a few SE's top 10 or 20 with searching 'nude' and 'babes'.

doesn't give me all that much surprisingly... and i don't understand why i've moved up over the years either.

The more written text that you have (in sentence and paragraph form) the better your rankings will be in the SE database.

Someday, they'll probably have an algorithm to make sure websites aren't just loading up with dummy text.

It'd be wise to have a warning page, along with 2257 !

It is always wise to have a warning page with no nudity on it. Its always good to be on the safe side. Then fill your site with ARS banners. Get them thru my signature banner below.

A warning page has not shown to do jack diddly squat with the laws. I am pretty curious since so many people here are tgp posters or owners, how many tgps do you submit to or run that have warning pages?

I never really understood the point of a warning page. I mean, who is coming to your site that doesn't intend to see porn? If they're coming from a search engine, they're looking for porn. If they're coming from an affiliate's link, they're obviously already looking at porn, and i assume you don't send affiliate traffic to a warning page first (correct me if i'm wrong, of course). And if they type in, well, unless your domain isn't clearly pornographic, then again, they're obviously looking for porn.

And no warning about being 18 years old is going to deter a horny 16 year old with his dick in his hand.
