Spam Cop is going down!!!
http://news.com.com/2100-1024_3-5210...feed&subj=news
A Northern California District Court judge issued a temporary restraining order to prevent SpamCop, an antispam operation, from interfering with messages sent by alleged junk e-mailer :) |
there is still brightmail
i dont get any spam to my hotmail, they're doing an amazing job |
I am not a big fan of spam at all, but I truly hope all these anti Idiots like spews, spamcop, spamhaus etc...get shut down fast. They are really making it bad for good hosts and isp's. They are asswipes with no validity at all and are infringing on peoples rights.
|

I find it nothing short of ironic that Ironport sells mail servers and owns Spamcop, which appears to be a great way to get the worlds best remove list.
|
Spam Cop rocks. I'm donating to their defense fund and I suggest that everyone else does the same. The link is on their home page. http://www.spamcop.net/

fucked them all, we don't spam but each 2-3 months we change IP addresses of our servers, as they somehow get listed in their fucking databases. :glugglug |

And for all you slimeballs who are jumping for joy because of the info that the under-educated, third-rate spammer wannabe CAHEK told you , the Temporary Restraining Order was REVERSED the next day. http://www.mailutilities.com/news/2412.html http://www.ironport.com/pdf/ironport_2004-05-12.pdf You would think that Richter was busy enough getting sued by Microsoft. I look forward to the day when Richter and some major of the Sponsors and Webhosts on GFY who have been been clogging the internet with their SPAM turds, get the fines and prison sentences that they so truly deserve.........:) |
When I worked at an email provider and spam/virus filtering company, Spamcop was one of our biggest problems.
RBL filtering is both the least effective and most destructive way of filtering for spam. I have no respect for admins who use it. |

For the record I didn't like spamcop's tactics either. The accusatory nature of their emails always sounded like they had already decided you were guilty. I'm for anything that reduces the worst kind of blatant spam, but for someone who is running a legit opt-in/opt-out list some of these organizations can make it quite tough. |
Never understood why responsible people like a news reporting agency dont understand the difference between "E-mail Marketing" and "Spam".
One is legitimate. The other is not. If a site allows anonymous recipients to claim "spam" instead of complying with the Can-Spam law's requirement to opt-out, then how can the can-spam law be effective? I could go join dr. phils website, check the box to join the newsletter, then report his site to spam cop sites until I'm blue in the face. Should his newsletters be blocked? This is one of those areas I need education with, so thanks for any replies. I feel like a targetted opt-in mailer for my bookmarkers would be the cats meow, but if ONE asshole decides to report me, I'm boned. And that seems to be how easy it would be :( |
Just to put my :2 cents: in...
I've had two dealings with spamcop, but never any problems. 1) Someone spammed with a list of webcam sites, mine was one of them. I never figured out who did it, or why. Spamcop marked it as a joe job/colateral damage without being anal about it. I think I'm still in SPEWS as there are a lot of real spammers in the same IP block as that server. 2) As the listed contact of an IP address range I was auto-emailed a complaint about a spam that had originated from a PC on my network. It turns out it was a W98 machine that had been IE exploited with a proxy trojan. The damn thing was fully patched, but IE is still full of holes. I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't received that complaint. |
