Video Capture -- A Little Help Please?
I have taken that leap of faith and purchased a digital camcorder with all sorts of toys and options I can neither remember, understand, pronounce or spell. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif
This sucker has iLink-firewire output as well as analog (RCA), and S-Video. I've acquired a Western Digital firewire expansion card. Now for the question: What is the best way to get the video into the machine for use as streaming video for a website? Also, I want to be able to capture still frames from the video for use as galleries. Any info would help and I KNOW someone out there knows something about this stuff. My instincts tell me so. ------------------ Got Fetishes? Post Your Fetish Galleries Here |
We use ATI Rage video cards with the rca connection, plugged up to Webcam32 for streaming, refresh or capturing. It works well with our regular 8 and super8 vidcams. Also works very well with the wireless cams we used. Webcam32 (once you get it figured out) is great for what you want to do tho.

cool... We're currently using inetcam to stream audio and video. From the looks of things I shall be using an all in wonder card. We were hoping to find a less expensive way to do this, but oh well. Not going to happen.
Thanks for your response, though. every little bit of knowledge is a little bit more than we had beforehand. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif ------------------ Got Fetishes? Post Your Fetish Galleries Here |
What software does the firewire card come with? Most of them usually do a pretty decent job. MGI VideoWaveIII is pretty decent and cheap if you need to buy some software.
Keep in mind that the still photos will probably be of extremely low quality when taking them off the tape unless your digicam is progressive scan. Even then, the quality is still pretty poor, unless you are just using them as thumbnails for the videos or something. I doubt you would want to use them for a regular gallery. |
Oops. After rereading your post I see you were looking for a method of "streaming" video. I guess the software that came with your firewire card won't do you any good for that sort of thing.

Webcam32 has a free version but the cost to register is only like 30 bucks and gets you free updates forever. You can get to them thru http://www.webcam32.com but I believe its surveyorcorp.com that owns it. It has all sorts of perks like chat and what not now. One thing to watch with camsites are hotlinkers. They can eat you alive in BW. We got nailed for 1800 one month when I first started a cam. And we had no clue why until we dug for days. Talk about put out. Try to explain in Portugese that you're going to break someones head for hotlinking sometime. lol The old man was livid considering we only made a grand from the site that month.

how did the hotlinker get at you? we are going to keep the stream in the restricted area so as not to allow freeloaders access to it and hotlinkers the opportunity to steal it. Heh-heh-heh... no password -- no playtime. LOL
evil... the card came with drivers and it's only purpose is to serve as a port for plugging shit in. I'll figure something out. I always do. Thanks, everyone... maybe now things will start to go the right way for me. bad couple of days, but oh well. life goes on. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif ------------------ Got Fetishes?
