So there was a visitor on my doorstep this morning.....

A very badly hurt baby raccoon.... He must have been hit by a car or something.. Poor thing was missing an eye, was walking like every movement was agony. There was no fresh blood though so jact put out some cat food and water and we tried to keep him around until we could finds someone on a weekend who could deal with him. After a few OPP vists a conservation officer showed up. The raccoon amazingly enough can be saved and they will be driving him two hours to a wildlife rehabilitation facility. I'm so glad he will be ok!

Just had to share that. You can go on with your day now.

I would have been scared and hit it with a shovel.

Always nice to hear stories like that :)

StuartD 06-12-2004 12:40 PM

poor thing... sounds like he must have been in a great deal of pain.

It's great of you to help him out, and awesome that the rehabilitation center can help too.

Raccoons are really cool animals, just misunderstood because they tend to make a mess out of garbage cans.

Well at first they though they would have to shoot him because they didn't know if they could get help on a weekend. We insisted he live though and they managed to find a conservation officer on a weekend. Glad I said no :)

dennisthemenace 06-12-2004 12:52 PM

LadyMischief 06-12-2004 02:01 PM

Actually I'll be honest, he was lucky we found him and not some locals.. They generally tend to shoot anything that moves and has more teeth than they do. They have even been known to shoot pets. Assholes. This town needs an enema.

jm_247live 06-12-2004 02:01 PM

it's nice to see there are still people who care about the other animals we share this planet with
