PARTY! Are the big Webmaster Get Togethers Really Worth The Trouble?

Are the big webmaster get-togethers really worth the trouble? Is it just drinking and shmoozing or do real deals get done? Which convention really stands out in your mind and why?

I dont do much business at those conventions, i just meet new people, have some beers and usually hang with a group of friends a few days. Its more like a holiday for me. And i always enjoy it.

stay home.

(see you guys in FL?)

Vegas was the most fun we've ever had and we met alot of nice people there. Can't wait to see Pattye, Matthew and the others in Florida. Would definately recomend going to a convention :thumbsup

That *is* doing business in my opinion

I love the shows.. I always do great business at them.. and get to have some fun while doing it.

Personally I like the Florida show better.. Maybe it's because it's closer for me.. or that we have the whole hotel..

:thumbsup

I think it really depends on what you do? At WA it was great to meet all the people but business wise there isnt much to do with anyone. We are a small site and have a small program that compared to these other programs (have someone just look at our site and we will give you $30 lol) is nothing. To go to Vegas the amount of money it would cost and the thought of being the only sober person in a room doesnt strike me as big fun lol.

I will agree with you there tony404 hon.. The Atlanta WA was more of a hang out and drink type thing..

Although some of the seminars were pretty good.

Seminars are always good to attend. You never know what you'll learn.

I'm glad to read there're no stories of fighting etc. When JFK posts pics of the events they all look like a good time was had by all.

Any memorable funny things ever happened like someone slipped on a banana peel or something?

True. We weren't expecting much. However the seminars were pretty good. We also met some good people and made a few good contacts. Overall a good time and we were glad we went

I like small informal get togethers the best. You can actualy get to know the people who you are doing business with. As a paysite owner I love to meet with my affiliates , take them out to lunch or a few drinks and findout what I can do to make things easier for them. Emails and messages only go so far.
As for the big events you meet alot of people but you don't realy get to know them.:2 cents:

The Adult Industry is one of the few where people get together often and tell each other their best ideas... while that is still going on then I would say go to them for sure!

StuartD 06-12-2004 12:54 PM

Don't ask, just go.

You won't know what a convention will do for you until you go for yourself.

Some do business, some don't.

LadyMischief 06-12-2004 12:57 PM

Networking is what this business is all about :)

Greg B 06-12-2004 04:24 PM

What I think would be a funny get together would make a funny movie.

Get this, a booking agent goofs up and instead of holding the annual adult webmasters meeting at a swank hotel, they end up holding it at Disneyland or Disneyworld.

That'd be a hoot for sure.

What I suggest is we all meet up at Disneyland under the name of the 'entertainment council of the free world'.

Then just go and tear ass for 3 days.

Hey, they've got beer at the big 'D'!

AndrewKanuck 06-12-2004 04:30 PM

Never. EVER. Underestimate the power of getting together for a beer and schmoozing. I haven't been doing Engineering for about 2 or 3 years, but I still go to 4 or 5 trade shows a year just to show my face and say hi to all my old friends in the Society of Telecom Engineers.

As the saying goes, it's not what you know - it's who you know.

i agree with that to an extent, but when I starting discovering that there wasn't business for me at conventions I made business for me...I branched out, learned new things, and almost quaddrupled my income in 1 year....just from workin new angles of the industry

right now, i own 1 paysite (soon to be 3), 3 tgp's and I promote other sponsors like a mother fucker....i am also a yahoo groups king (over 40 groups with collectively 125k members), and I toy with SE's quite a bit....

it is just really nice having a check come every day of the week, and without conventions I wouldn't have had that....going to the conventions showwed me there is SO much more than just my measly little paysite

Okay, where do we line up to apply?

That's a great winner's tale. You show initiative and adaptability and discipline.
