I need hardware advice..... Building new computer....

Hey guys. I am building a new system, but I want to use my old hard drives in it. I have (2) 250GB WD drives in my current box and I don't want to format them/etc. Is it possible to implant them into the new machine without having to reinstall Windows XP?

I hope this makes sense...... :(

the system will hang on boot. the OS is not transplatable. You COULD try going into add/remove programs, uninstall EVERY driver then go into add/remove hardware and remove EVERY possible piece of hardware all before pulling the drive out but you are better off going with a fresh install.

The cleanest install would be to assemble the new computer with whatever parts you want and install a fresh copy of Win XP onto a formatted drive.

Back up all of your files from one of the drives (to the other one if enough space is available) and format that drive with the Win XP cd.

Just pulling a hard drive with an operating system on it from one computer to a new one with different components is a recipe for a lot of headaches.

Yes, but she can do a parallel install that will put another copy of XP on the same drive, then she can take the data she needs and then wipe everything else.

That will avoid having to do a large backup on seperate disks.
