If so, why?

to test my php+mysql scripts!

I use red hat to my other projects, not to do any sites with.

I'm a huge freebsd fan....cuz it takes a lick and keeps on servin'

other reasons? hmmm, yeh, ditto to testing and running php & perl off of...that's always fun too

I've used red hat, freebsd and solaris(sparc and intel). They are all much more stable and reliable than an windows os, which I have also used. The goal is to maximize uptime without as little effort and cost possible. Because the unix/linux kernel has a hell of a lot less crap built in to it, it typically can handle a lot more load with less cpu cycles which also effects performance and longevity of hardware.

I use Linux on my garage door opener. It's really a flexible O/S.

We feed ours peanuts for optimal optimization! Runs the cat buggy tho.

tried once, but had problems with my video card, was stuck in 16 colors in resolution of like 320x640 or whatever, now I am back to win98se, I feel ashamed but it runs ok, all my servers however are unix or linux

Because if your syntax is sloppy, you'll know about it before you up load any changes to your site.

I used to use only linux but now am 100 Solaris on Sun hardware
