Check out www.phpfreaks.com ... they may have an already made script ready to go for something like that. Also try www.hotscripts.com

First one...

This tutorial will teach you how to create a simple event timer. An event timer will allow people to see the exact amount of days until something happens, such as a Birthday or webpage grand opening.
In the code below, I made a Birthday timer, but the code can be easily modified to time something else! Just follow the comments.

Second one...

Keep track of important events. Karen's Countdown Timer II continuously monitors future events, and reports how much time remains before they occur. Don't let another meeting, anniversary, deadline or new year catch you by surprise!

You asked for...

"need something that i can put dates in on a site and it shows the end user a countdown to it.. ie 5 hours etc etc.. anything out there?"

So do you need something that counts hours specifically? Or days down to hours down to event?

If you want a realtime countdown just do a web search for an Olsen Twins countdown site and grab the javascript from that...

I'd use java.script for that.
