My wife recently quit dancing and the clubs she danced at loved to blame the Internet for a decline in customers.. which I, personally, find a little odd.

While I can't speak for anyone other than myself .. I can't see how someone who goes to a club can get the same experience from a porn site.

I go to strip clubs to have fun with my friends and my wife. We enjoy getting a few dances, having a few beers etc. I don't get off on it. I don't rush home and immediately want to tug one out. It's just a fun experience.

Porn and strip clubs have different purposes and fill different needs IMO. Strip clubs are, largely, a social endeavour. Porn is solitary and purely sexual.

It's not fair to compare a lap dance to a standard pay-site membership. If you want to compare something to a lap dance, compare a per minute live came site like iFriends.

If you want to compare something to a pay-site, then porn videos (dvd/vhs) would be more accurate. That's essentially the competition, although most major production companies have built their internet presence and some license their videos to online companies.

A porn DVD on average cost about $20-25 (online dealers), and renting a video cost about $3-5 each. With dvd copying/ripping now in full force, I would say that online porn "Netflix" sites should be seeing their business increase, although I haven't seen a lot of well produced rental sites yet.

DVD porn has better quality, more playability options, and ability to copy/save. On the other hand it's less convenient (impulsive), content is limited, and not as interactive. Web-sites are finally beginning to catch up to DVD quality downloads, which is essential in this business now and sites like Videosz, Climax Corner, Deluxe Pass, etc... who offer 100+ DVD's for immediate download are ahead of the game.

Sorry to get off topic... but comparing lap dances to a porn membership is like comparing the cost of a live concert to the cost of a CD.

I have to disagree - there is a comparison to lap dancing and adult sites. Girls who are dancers are having to do more dirty stuff to get even $20 (handjob / blowjob) and the same goes for a website that some webmasters feel they have to push the limit as to what is acceptable and legal.

Dancers are having to give things away for free to make money, same as internet to direct traffic to a pay site.

Its a downward spiral to be more dirty to get near the money that use to be made.

Of course there are comparisons to be made in other areas like you stated, but the comparison that was brought up was the cost of web-sites ($20-30 monthly) vs. lap dances ($20 for a song), which is what I was responding to.

The fact that dancers & web-sites have to "push the limits" these days, has very little to do with each other, and a lot to do with the sheer competition in each industry.
