Optimized from the wrong kw?
I have a site that I have been adding a new page to every other day if not every day. The site is being crawled by google/yahoo but I am being indexed in the serp for a keyword that is in my domain name.
I am in no way complaining about this but on average how long does it take for google/yahoo to index you for the more competitive terms? The site is only about two months old so am I just rushing things or what? I have a few backlinks but not as many as the results that show up on the first page of google/yahoo when you search for the competitive phrases. |
The latest Google update seems to be loving the anchor text. I'm currently #1 on a girl's first name in which there is absolutely no reference to that name on my page at all. #1 of 1.5 million, go figure!

Depending upon your methods of optimizing your site, google will sandbox your site. This means that the links and pages you add today will not affect your rankings for up to 3 months. You will be able to view your new back links and PR (on pre-existing pages) after approx. 30 days, but they won't be of value to your rankings for another 20-60 days depending upon how aggressively you are adding links (the more links you add the longer it takes). New links will make a small difference at first, but it takes a while for it to take full effect. The new pages you added will not recieve PR for up to 90 days.

Considering your site is only a few months old, you will have to wait a few more months. Do remember that you are competing with millions of sites for competitive terms. I wouldn't expect good results unless you have 20 pages of unique content and at least 100+ backlinks. It really depends on the keyword though and the current algorythm. Lots of content and relevant links are key.
