Why does my server ask me to enter my password twice?

I saw this asked a couple of days ago but did not catch the answer.

Scenario...

I log into a site, and provide the user/pass. When I click on a movie file (.wmv), Media Player launches and I get asked again for my user/pass.

What's wrong here?

Thanks,
Bill

Now I know, thanks.

UPDATE>>> If I do not close WMP, i do not get asked for the user/pass the second time. Is this a DRM thingy?

Windows Media Player starts a new session. Every session need authentication.

OK, so is this normal with all sites with videos in .wmv format?

clarification - he's right that all new applications need their own authentication, for example, each time you ask for a file when in the member's area, IE passes along the user / pw with each request

when you launch another application, either another browser (e..g Opera), or a movie player, it needs to know the user / pw to pass along with each request as well

this is not specific to the format of the file (e.g. wmv) being requested
