I think your hubby is just excited that he found a new toy and exagerated. it does not produce a better computer than anywhere. There is not enough ram nor CPU power to handle full on 5.1 DVD with hdtv playback unles he was to order an extremely modded version with1433Mhz cpu and 128mb shared ram. Most modern PC's can do this fine and better than even the modded version.
Here is the thing though, for what the xbox was meant to do, this thing is wicked powerful. it can be a full on media center.

I have this in my living room on the xbox. It's a picture viewer, shoutcast recorder/player, video jukebox, music jukebox, weather station and gaming system all in one. I even have a fully functional web browser on it. Best of all, ALL of my music and video is not even on the xbox. It's sitting on the PC I am typing at right now. Just connect the xbox to your home network, setup the xboxmediacenter.xml settings file to use your samba shares and you are all set. Just kepe sure to keep your internal network protected behind a router/firewall when using samba.
It's a very powerful system when unleashed, but it's far from the best computer.
