any shroom hunters?
How long after the rain is the best time to go picking? It's pretty hot down here, so it dries up fast, but how long does it take the shrooms to sprout up?
|
went shroom hunting once with some folks i met at college. after that experience i thanked god i wasn't born a redneck.
|
They're free out here so no problems going to find them.
However I've heard best way to get them at the perfect time is to pull them from cow shit.....I never went in search of that ugh....but that's what everyone out here does. |
Don't do it unless you are with an expert. Pick the wrong kind and you WILL get sick. People have actually died and thats not a rumor. There is a poisonous species that looks very similar to the ones you want. Just don't be stupid and get sick.

hot and humid is the best time...when it is the both of those to the max....we usually went in late july here in the south

Yeah. I'm not sure when the best time is. My grandpa used to tell me before he died. My dad still finds a handful every year on his land.
The prime season in Indiana, where my dad found some this year, was about 2 or 3 weeks ago I think. About being an expert, you just have to know what you're looking for. The Morel's are what you want... link hotten.. http://www.bright.net/~wildwood/images/nature5.jpg Cooked right, they're not going to taste like what you buy at the store. They'll be delicious. :thumbsup |

Best time is right after a good rain.. And yes the cowshit is the place to look... As far as what to look for look under the cap for a purple ring... Of course I never did any such thing.... :winkwink:

you don't necessarily need rain or sun.. it just needs to be humid, the morning dew and condensation on the grass is sometimes enough.. i've picked them a few days into a cloud covered sunless week of rain while they were underwater in puddles, i've also picked them on rainless sunny days.. sure a big storm and then sunshine the next day helps but don't believe all the bullshit people tell you. Just go out and look, you may even find more as every asshole and his mate is waiting for the perfect conditions and you won't stumble on prepicked fields.

Make sure the cows are grain fed!!!!! Otherwise you will be looking at a bunch of non-productive SHIT. My experience is, rain the night before is very important for daybreak purple stems.
Happy Hunting :) |
sweet mini-setup punker barbie.. i never thought of that. I used to grow a shitload in fishtanks with the PF formula.
|
btw... NinjaGirl, be very carefull when you're picking. If you pick the wrong type of mushroom it can kill you.
Personally, i'd just grow them... |
