Exclusive Webmaster Communities & How They Will Come About
The more I think about message boards and their popularity, something comes to mind that is most of the time both overlooked and underestimated. Exclusive communities. message boards and public BBS sites have their advantage and of course are going nowhere, but the power of exclusive communities has yet to be flexed by anyone to the extent it should.
I predict the coming of exclusive webmaster communities where people will pay to post and be a part of. Not everyone needs newbies or their ideas, some people are looking for an exclusive place to make deals with people who are both willing and capable of stepping up to the table with more than "would you hit this?" threads. Trust me, people are craving this and it is coming. Whether some jump on it or not who knows, that's up to you and your financial backers. But I can see them coming and maybe not all will survive, but one shall, and it's up to someone to do it. What exclusive communities? Simple, some people are tired of dealing with all the bullshit that is involved with unrestricted public access, multiple nicks, fake drama, and shallow posts of broke haters trying to bash successful webmasters and/or program owners. The desire to do business will... (read the rest) http://www.fletchxxx.com/images/drink.gif |
I agree.....
I know there are several private, invite only boards that have been going on for years because of this very thing.... |
110% true and needed at times...

I agree. Absolutely.
But I kind of like shallow posts and fake drama as well. Nice for passing time inbetween work, but nothing more. Gets too much sometimes though. Nice blog btw :thumbsup |

Hmmm - very interesting.

There actually already are a lot of invite-only boards
I, personally wouldn't mind a "premium" board/resource area that charged a small monthly membership fee and contained good, solid, advanced techniques (things that could get fucked up in the hands of a newbie) and scripts, ideas, resources, etc. that are above and beyond "let's play games with the newbies" this isn't a shot at newbies either, rather the newbies who have nothing better to do than show off their ARS Sigs and discuss what they had for breakfast... |
Every board has come and gone. They evolve with the want and needs of the massess. I totally agree with you fletch. The day will come.

Sounds like a good idea.. but really.. I don't see it taking off without a hook of some kind.

But I don't post here just to show of my sig though, nor to tell everyone what I had for brekfast hehe. I would post just the same and just as little no mather what was in my sig. Have done so since I joined this board. (no pun taken btw) I absolutely see the need for such a comunity, but I don't exactly expect any invitations for it. But my time will come... :winkwink: In the meantime I'll concentrate on myself and my own work and plans. |

im talkingh about a general resource for everyday webmasters but not invite only, want to post pay, this would cut out many hobbyists and other idiots. |

The only drawback I see is that the only idiots it keeps out is the broke ones. The idiots with money still get in if they want to. |

I just thought of something.
put another board behind gfy, which is by invite only. the borad members would have to want to invite thie new webmaster and he would get an email or icq to ask if he wants in, and if he does then the board would send back a password. an invite only board. and keep it password protected. |
