If this place really is the purported Atlantis I bet the reality of it will be very disappointing to those who thought it was some Utopia

Pleasurepays 06-07-2004 12:53 PM

"scientist claims sun will explode in 10 years"

Very fascinating specialy because in ancient sumerian text Atlantis is mentioned.

If that is Atlantis near Spain That's a long way from Iraque(Former Sumeria)

Which raises the question how did those sumerians know about it?.

Fascinating indeed :thumbsup

sumphatpimp 06-07-2004 12:57 PM

when I look at those pics I don't see the rings, but I do see midget mud wrestling, drinks half price and ladies get in free.

Amazing Story !

love that stuff

Hammer 06-07-2004 01:29 PM

It's amazing what people see when they want to see something. Kind of like seeing Jesus in some paint pealing on a wall, or a unicorn in a cloud formation, or a face on Mars that is really just an odd shaped mountain.

I stared at that image until my eyes hurt and can't for the life of me see anything that looks like rectangular structures or rings.

Oh wait... now that I look hard enough I see the outline of what appears to be a UFO and I swear that I can see Lensman's face in the upper left.

Mr Pheer 06-07-2004 02:04 PM

I see ******* when I look hard enough and squint my eyes

Don't know how often they "may" found "Atlantis"....

serious 06-07-2004 02:59 PM

so why doen'st somoene go check it out

most likely its nothing and just some desperate guy connecting a bunch of old tales together

Greg B 06-07-2004 03:00 PM

What's odd is that a couple years ago a Soviet underwater archaeological team found huge pyramids miles under the water off the coast of Cuba. They're still investigating. They figured then that that was the location of Atlantis.

Now we get another 'It might be Atlantis' thingie. I think if you wanna make money quick, get a buncha scientists and newspeople to pay for your hotels and restaurants, just figure out some way to say 'Atlantis was here' and they'll all come a-runnin'.

I'ld bet when all is said and done knowing our dumbass luck they'll find out that Antarctica 'was' Atlantis.

C-Bass 06-07-2004 03:09 PM

i am seeing those rings also.....

HarryHo 06-07-2004 05:04 PM

read the article

Dr Rainer Kuehne thinks the "island" of Atlantis simply referred to a region of the southern Spanish coast destroyed by a flood between 800 BC and 500 BC.

BVF 06-07-2004 05:21 PM

I'm the type of person that WANTS it to be true but I don't see shit. They said some rectangular slabs of stone that they found out near the bahamas is Atlantis also.

I REALLY want to believe it but they're going around and around with the "ancient measurements were underestimated" and "they might have meant this word instead of that word when they translated it" and blase bla.

I don't want to hear about shit until they dug it up already.

Pornwolf 06-07-2004 05:31 PM

When they figure out how those little buildings called THE PYRAMIDS were built I might be a bit more trusting of their "knowledge."

i remember watching something like that on TV. it was pretty cool the way the stones fractured so perfectly naturally and even formed what looked like steps.

shit.

i think i see a ghost.

SeTec 06-07-2004 07:45 PM

why don't they go send a robtic sub down there and have a look-see, instead of getting everyone all hyped up about whats probably rocks.

err, go there. i guess its not underwater?

Trixie Racer 06-07-2004 08:55 PM

These two quotes from the article make me suspicious:

"The features were originally spotted by Werner Wickboldt, a lecturer and Atlantis enthusiast who studied photographs from across the Mediterranean for signs of the city described by Plato."

"Dr Kuehne said he hoped to attract interest from archaeologists to excavate the site. But this may be tricky. The features in the satellite photo are located within Spain's Donana national park."

LadyMischief 06-07-2004 09:00 PM

Definitely not Atlantis.. not even remotely near the same area Plato described. There are all kinds of submerged cities along the coastlines, many of them contemporary with what is generally accepted as the time period that Atlantis would have existed. Of special interest are several underwater archaeological sites as well off the coast of Japan, the southeastern tip of India, and several Malasyan locations.

Considering we are technically in the tail end of the same ice age that could have caused the catastrophic loss of so much land mass, it wouldn't be at all suprising if a lot more sites are found. Unfortunately many are below the level of being easy accessible to marine archaeologists. Further research would require a lot more funding than many of these guys could secure.

That's the only way they can get a closer look at the site on someone else's tab :)

ehulk81 06-07-2004 09:06 PM

i cant see anything in those pics, looks like land

pimplink 06-07-2004 09:07 PM

I always thought Atlantis is only a legend...Like mt. Olympus in the Mythology and Hogwarts and Mordor...Guess I need more proof to believe in this shit.

So sorry Atlantis fans and believers...
