Photoshop CS gurus... help me out plz

ok listen up... maybe this is a stupid noob question but fact is I'm a noob at PS and several friends who design couldn't help me out either.

I'm using PS to make 88x88 thumbs of high quality, now what I do is this:

- With the Marquee tool I choose a certain part of the pic
- paste it in a new PS window
- resize it to the nearest ...x... possible with "image size"
- go to "canvas size" and make it actual 88x88

the thumb is excellent now only there is a white background which I can't lose... when I save it the bg stays and everything... I've gone over the same procedure ten times and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Can anyone please help me out??? thnx!

edit: oh btw the white bg appears after I use canvas size!

use the crop tool

when you select the tool, look above, there are dimensions

switch those dimensions to 88px by 88px

now drag your crop tool and double click in the middle when done

did you change the color of the new to transparent??

You can specify how many pixels you want your selected area to be.

The three styles are Normal,Ratio,Exact Size

Jesus...just grab your crop tool (C on the Keyboard) and set the size to 88x88. Drag the crop tool over your image that you'd like cropped to 88x88 and then double click in the middle. Save for web. Done.

Sounds like you have a border set on it.....

And you should be able to change the bg color to something other than white.

not sure what you are referring to about this "white background" problem
are you tryign to get a transparent background? if so you need to save as a .gif

CS got actions?

If so...
Create a new folder. Copy all images into it.
Open up say 30 Documents.

Choose 1 Photo.

Hit the action pallet>New Action>Name it.

Record.

Choose>IMAGE SIZE > Width Enter 88. >Enter

Choose Selection Tool Enter Hieght 88 ( width 200 or somthing dont matter)
Click with selection tool in the top portion of the image. The (Marquee will automatically highlite 88 Pixels.)
Image Crop.

File Save> File Close. (Prompt for compression make it like 45%)
Stop Recording.

You will now have an action that you simply click.

With that you should simply blaze through any image resizing.

Probably upwards of 200 Thumbs per 5 minutes if that.

ok your suggestions are fine if I needed only a 88x88 part out of that photo but I need a bigger part, resized to an 88x88 thumb.

So let's say I take this photo

http://www.teeniegalls.com/Elysia18/elysia006.jpg

and do the actions described above I get this:

http://www.teeniegalls.com/ethumb2.jpg

[notice there is a white border around it]

now i need the same thing done but without the border/bg

Your not resizing the image.

Dont copy past scale thats silly.

Just take the whole image and reset its size to 88 pixels wide.:)

Nice pic I think you should show us all the thumbs we are talking about here:)

ok now i'm totally clueless about what you mean... resetting it's size would only make the entire pic go 88x88 right, not the selection I made

can you hit me up on icq or something?

If you are intent on getting a precise area hold the shift key down while doing the MARQUEE.

You may select a 300 by 300 area for example but thats fine.

Just crop it and resize to 88 the hieght will fall into 88 by default.
