British Telecom Blocks Access to Child Porn Site
British Telecom has taken the unprecedented step of blocking all illegal child pornography websites in a crackdown on abuse online. The decision by Britain's largest high-speed internet provider will lead to the first mass censorship of the web attempted in a Western democracy
http://www.guardian.co.uk/online/new...232506,00.html I think this is definitly a good decision but this leaves room to abuse from them ... |
But, whos finding all the CP sites to block them - that person must really be able to blank their mind
|
Definately a good thing! :thumbsup
Yea.. tis open to abuse, though probably not via BT - we have plenty "clout" there right at the top and they could not stand another session of "ear bashing" from us! BT are fine - ya just have to plow thru the crap "formalities" :-) But yea... this is a danger in some other areas/countries! :( |
this is not a good thing.
sorry but they will come after something else next. bondage perhaps? isps should not have that right. what you do, someone else doesnt like, keep that in mind when placing judgement on others. |
ok, so if they know what the CP sites are... why dont they just go after them instead of blocking them? its like just ignoring someone breaking the law.

CHILD MOLESTORS like CHILD PORN how could you possibly see this as negitive, it may be againts freedom of surfing but personally I sleep easier knowing that european sickos aren't jacking off to children:feels-hot :2 cents: |

if you cant see it maybe you should look again. they will always use the "children" to pass shit like this. webmasters who are for censorship, who would have thought. Dawgy is right on, instead of addresing the issue...they want you to feel more secure by restricting the net. first cp, then bondage, i dont need to explain this. |
Fletch XXX:
As you know Fletch - all that stuff is down to people (individuals) in organisations - they can make or break any org. If ya got a total asshole at the top, there can be plenty problems. There is also the prospect of "policy" which may not exactly be the policy of the ISP, but some government shit imposed on them, whether formaly recognised/declared or not :-) You are right - it "could" be the thin edge of the wedge! |

bad move.. and it's just going to get worse..
find the sick fucks who run the sites and get them.. dont start censoring things.. it's not the right way.. |

Sometimes... eg in an instance I won't say here, but the names are known on GFY, enforcement just leaves these sites up to "trade" a while - since there is much more involved and info to gather before acting - but they will act and there is no reason to be speaking to, or have the "input" from any ISP. |
This is a good thing, until they start using it to block "domestic terrorist" sites that don't agree with the government.

what are you talking about?
UIts already happening. Thius guy lived not far from me, and is doing time now for having bomb related info on his site. the info was from a book he bought on amazon.com written by ex US military, isnt that some shit? http://www.raisethefist.com/ dont play like its off in the future, they are already cracking down on sites that have nothing to do with porn and raise the fist is more than proof. |

Depends, who's in prower in the government at that time and what they consider domestic terrorist. And it make's NO Diff. what party, just the person |

yeah but that's in America, we all know the Bush administration is crazy. Once Asskroft and the other fundamentalists are gone Sherman will probably be pardoned. |

well, that might be all and good but in the UK recently we had the family of a murdered woman (who willingly met a man for sex that included strangulation) demand the shut down of all sites that protray any violence against women - including bondage. So, while it might be a good thing in this one case it is worth watching to see what flood gates it opens. |

Exhibit A: We had Halloween parties taken away from our grammar school because some family (THE MINORITY) moved to town that had a problem with it. Exhibit B: We had the Pledge of Allegiance pulled from our public schools because a MINORITY had a problem with its use of the word GOD (which this nation was founded under... which is what the pledge says...) We bow to the minority in nearly every case. That'll come next in the internet. The MINORITY (let's face it, the vast majority of the cattle surfs porn... be it TV, Rentals, Internet) will eventually organize and come after the whole damn industry. We all know that porn is the backbone of the internet economy. But those radical few don't care. Their morals are more important. End of rant... |
sounds like a good idea. but why block access? shouldnt they just be shut down?
|
I don't like it.. sure who can argue with blocking CP sites, but really.. once you start down this path its easy to keep on going.
If they really want to crack down on kiddie porn.. take over some KP sites, and go after who joins. |
i dont see a problem, they are blocking illegal content, if they knew about it and kept providing access to child porn they would be guilty of supplying it. as long as they are only blocking illegal stuff i think its a good move
