What do you do with your old computers?
 

your oooooooold computers. Do you throw them away? It seems weird throwing something in the trash that once cost so much. But they don't work anymore so theyre kind of useless.

is there a place that pays money for old computers or fixes them up and gives them to charity or something?

I've had a few sitting around for a year or so, I'm probably just going to give them to some charity.

I give them away. Usually to models that don't have one.

I'm sure there are a few.. I usually sell em.. while they still work. I get a new machine every year max.. so they aren't THAT old.

Alot of schools around here will take them as donations.
I remember when I was in grade 8-9 I used to help the computer teacher out by piecing together systems from donated parts.
Thats always an option. I think my old one is still in my closet though....

i have thrown away everything escept the hard drives.

my paranoia will not let me simply throaw them away. hahaha

someone told me to pour coke on them, urban legend.

i am waiting to take a sledgehammer to the pile of them one day, other than that I just throw away what I cannot use and move along.

i need to get rid of all these old hard drives though

I am about to disassemble and dispose of my Mac from 95. I've kept her around so long but it is time to say goodbye.

When Turboface got his new one custom made I got the old one. It's time for a new one for me.

I always pass them down to someone that has a lesser machine (or no machine at all). Someone helped me get started waaaaaaay back so I always do the same.

they usually turn into "projects" around the house. one networks my refrigerator. the other my fish tank. I always find some sort of use for them.

take a bat and an axe and what ever tools ya got and bash it to hell:Graucho then throw it away

parts to make them better are cheap, so I fix them up to be semi-nice and give them to my family...someone always needs a computer

i have a mess of them in the basement....problem is...i do have to figure out what to do with them one day.

toss them all in the trash here and I yank all the drives out.

The drives get smashed with a nice sized sledgehammer :)

this is what I am guessing is the ONLY route.

sledgehammer = privacy.

Give them to charity or to local famlies that need one.
We wipe the drives clean, reinstall OS and give them away.. Why destroy them? Some poor kid can use it to learn. Karma man...

wiping a drive does not really remove the data, talk about karma? Id rather bash the drives to shit.

There's places that melt them down for the gold and stuff and remake them into new computers or other things.

Don't make the same mistake.

I normally keep the screws, drives, memory (don't know why) and cables. Throw the rest in the trash.

We usually give our to family or friends.

I sold my $3650 compaq presario that i bough in 1999 for like $50 three years later. That was the biggest POS ever.

We usually replace our machines every 2 years.

We have one that is just over 2 years old and it is a piece of shit too. I willl never buy a Compaq again! :Graucho
