are we shooting ourselves in the foot?

I just had an interesting experience..

My ISP (which doesn't use infoave) had a problem with another provider upstream enabling an adult site filter which according to them was a mistake.

I wasn't able to access any adult sites that had the adult content meta tags.

I'm all for keeping porn from children, but it occured to me how easy it would be for any internet provider to just cut off adult all together with a click of the mouse.

We use these meta tags voluntarily to show good faith and to prevent minors from accessing our sites, but when this happened to me, it made me think of how easy we're making it for any provider to just shut us down.

I'd be interested to hear what you all have to say about this

There's plenty of people who would love to shut down adult..

when this happened .. it reminded me of the first time I had to go to a sectioned off smoking area in a restaurant.. no one thought that was very important either..

Off course there is, but not the people who relly on it for there income, you dont often see adult webmasters saying, lets shut this down.

Isp's, etc are no different, they are the biggest adult webmasters of the lot, lets face it the internet is a pile of shit, I know if I wasnt doing this for a living I wouldnt ever log on, we all know its only use is to deliver porn to the masses, without it no fucker would ever log on,

I dont bother with any of those tags and shit. All my domain names have sex or porn or xxx or something that clearly designates it as an adult site.

I've always thought it was an unspoken duty and a show of good faith to display those tags.. now, I'm not so sure. I do want to help prevent minors from accessing my adult content, but dammit, I don't want to also help them put me out of business because of it.

I'm still wondering how this so called "accident" happened. It's got me thinking

There is no good faith when it comes to non-porn people.

To them we might as well be kiddie porners.

I dont think parents should le their kids surf the net unsupervised at all. Put the computer in the livingroom / dining room , not the kids bedroom.

Of course this is all pretty pointless.. since these days a kid that wants to see porn will find a way. If not at your home then at one of his friends.

I saw a lot of porn when I was a kid.. but we had to work for it! :winkwink:

IMO... anytime you label yourself.. you are just making it easier for someone to find you.

Personally i feel it is NOT MY JOB to keep porn from kids.... It is not the governments job either... it is the job of the fucking parent.

I am so tired of having all these new and fucked up regulations, taxes or what ever that the government imposes on the rest of us because the parent cannot keep control over their own children. Tobacco is way over taxed to keep children from smoking... yet they still do.... restrictions on porn the same thing.... if a child wants it bad enough... they will get it.

If people cannot keep control over their own children, then they should not have children. :2 cents:

I tag all our pages and sites.
I would encourage everyone to do the same.
Too many liabilities with an Adult Pay Site not too...

This ISP issue was a mistake...
They make mistakes all the time - lol

I'm no expert on the law, but from what I understand, there are no legalities involved whatsoever in warning pages and meta adult tagged pages. All it's for is to show good intent.

Anyone that knows the legalities of this correct me if I'm wrong
