GFYers..... and Movie Buffs, please advise.

We bought several semi-horror DVD's yesterday and already watched all of them, and now are headed out for more. Any suggestions? I have not seen a movie at the theater for 8 years.

As for what we like:
Cabin Fever (Cheezy, but I liked it)
28 Days (Loved it!)
Jeepers Creppers 2 (stupid)
13 Ghosts (not great, but not horrible, a tad cheezy)
Ghostship (Liked it)

That should give you an idea of what we like.

Edit, What "I" like............... rene has a few hundred DVD's from home that still haven't arrived so I can't speak for him, but we seem to agree so far.

KidCock 06-05-2004 05:28 PM

The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is pretty good.

Wrong Turn

I'm watching Broken Lizard's Club Dread right now...stupid comedy, but you might enjoy it for some cheesy laughs ;p

sinkiss 06-05-2004 05:29 PM

wrong turn is excellent.
house on haunted hill
the ring
feardotcom
secret window (i think its already out)
all of those are pretty good.

What is "Wrong Turn" about?

I've seen all of the above other than that one.

my wedding video is pretty damn scary

Wrong Turn is about some college kids who take a wrong turn...and end up someplace they don't wanna be heh

Quite well-done though, the video production keeps you on the edge of your seat as does the music ;p

I'm sorry sweetie, but that was funny!

MORE suggestions please! Horror/Suspense genre!

Deb 06-05-2004 06:08 PM

We just finished watching Gothika on ppv. It was pretty decent.

Elli 06-05-2004 06:08 PM

The Last House on the Left (oldie but goodie)
The Hitcher (the first one)
The Fly
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Omen

angeleyes 06-05-2004 06:10 PM

We just got WRONG TURN, just started.

Elli... solid choices, I've seen about half of them and added the other half to the "to buy list". :thumbsup

Personally I recommend against Wrong Turn, but to each their own.

I forgot: House of 1000 Corpses!! I need to see that again soon, actually...

Call me elitist, but I thought Ringu (the Japanese original of the Ring) was scarier. As far as S. King movies go, I think Rose Red scared my pants off, but then I watched that in the dark by myself, so who knows? heheh

Saw the first one, thought it was cheezy but I loved the plot and the movie! Is #2 as good?

Part two is pretty good as well. There's this one scene that scared the bejesus out of me in theatres when I watched it.

The funniest part in the first one is the bus scene. What's funny is that they filmed it at a four way stop, and suddenly this bus is doing 50km/h through the intersection like she's in the middle of Manhattan or something. When really she's in Ladner. :1orglaugh

lol.. that was a brutal one. I liked how they intertwined the first movie it into part 2

Severely inbreed cannibalistic mountainmen who prey those that take a wrong turn through their backwoods mountain road. Not an instant classic, but I liked it.

What is the name of that movie where a few campers get ass raped, killed and chased by hillbillies? Burt Reynolds may have been in it, I'm not sure. I haven't seen it, but my friends joke about it all the time. Is it actually worth seeing?

SuziQT 06-05-2004 08:48 PM

Deliverance...and yeah, it's actually pretty good! :thumbsup

...not exactly horror, though. Although I guess you could consider rape pretty horrible.

That is it! They all used to call one of the vacations we took "Brady Bunch meets Deliverance". (We all drove up to Kentucky and rented two 3 story house-boats, 4 bedrooms each, curly slides, beautiful weather........however..... A bunch of people brought their kids which wasn't planned and we ended up anchoring for a week in this freaky cove off of Lake Cumberland, hence the "joke" was born. We all got so bored we turned the boats in a few days early and went home.

I would do that vacation again in a heartbeat, just not with so many people. We sort of had it made though because one of our vacationers brought his limo driver down, put him up in a motel and he had to drive a dingy out to our boats every day to get a grocery list and brought us back anything we wanted. That was very cool!

House of 1000 Corpses.

CamChicks 06-05-2004 10:51 PM

ok.. a few totally random "semi-horror" recommendations:

- Ginger Snaps 1 & 2 (2 is my favorite)
- Brotherhood of the Wolf (subtitled)

- Ravenous
- The Brood (older)
- The Eye (japanese)
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake or original)

- Bubba Ho-Tep ('Horror/comedy')
- No Such Thing ('Horror/comedy')

-Pitch Black (horror/sci-fi)
-Cube (horror/sci-fi)

this list is so incomplete ... I posted a long list on GFY before.. but search is broken.

I just assume everybody has seen the classics like:
- The Fly (always better than you remember)
- The Thing
- Day/Dawn of the Dead + 'Return' series

HAPPYPEEKERS 06-05-2004 10:59 PM

GOTHIKA :thumbsup

That's a really great movie. Really makes you think about the deconstruction of the human psyche and had me puzzled for a long time. Great movie.

I would also have to go with
Terror At The Opera
Audition
Dark Water
The Devil's Backbone
Phenomena aka Creepers (jennifer connelly looking total hot and barely legal)
Gates Of Hell
Zombi
Battle Royale

Thanks :) I haven't seen the Secret Window yet.. guess I'll have to now. :) Ringu is at Blockbuster up here, so it's pretty easy to find. "Christine" is a good one, but slow in parts. It always freaks me out, but I tink that's as far as it goes hehe Same with Pet Semetary.

If you liked Ghostship, then you will like these
Frankenstein Island
Monster a Go-Go

Secret Window is stupid but I guess worth watching if you're a Stephen King fan. John Turturro was too funny to be scary, and the ending is lame. Misery is 5000 times better.

Mmm I blocked the movie of Misery from memory, since the book is SO much better. But aren't they all? :winkwink:

doornx 06-06-2004 02:56 PM

if you want good horror go old skool

halloween
evil dead 1
evil dead 2
dawn of the dead (original)
