Strange Photoshop problem

For the last few weeks images in Photoshop are being displayed extra bright. I don't know what caused it, or how to fix it. It makes it a pain to work on stuff.

When I go to save for web and it shows the preview, then the image is displayed in normal brightness.

What's going on here?

Here's an example

Are you working in RGB mode?

I guess you didn't notice the title on the window. RGB/8.

I've tried switching to all the different modes, RGB, CMYK, 8 bit, 16 bit - doesn't seem to change much. It's actually a little brighter in CMYK

Did you check out Edit>Color Settings to see if it's still set as default? If the settings have been changed that can cause color discrepancies.

It says north america general purpose defaults.

Honestly I don't remember even messing with the settings, it seemed like one day it was just bright all of a sudden - very strange.

Can this be a monitor calibration problem too but if you set up the proper RGB profile for the web and uncheck Display using monitor compensation, you can't go wrong..

Another tip is delete the possibly corrupted preferences or just hide them in a folder first and reset the PS default.. it may help. If the new setup is ok, you can delete the old prefs.. old but works.

check out RGB mode up in the left window.

goodluck!
